MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Wednesday, August 14th

Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?

Stevietpfl: Juan Soto
Dean78904: Juan Soto
TheLuuch: Aaron Judge
Alex Sonty: Aaron Judge

Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Stevietpfl: Ronel Blanco – Tampa has seven hitters with strikeout rates over 24% against right-handed pitching and only one hitter with an ISO over .200. They only have one hitter with a wOBA over .350 as well. This lineup ranks in the bottom 10 in wRC+, wOBA, ISO, and strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Blanco has been hit or miss all season, but I can’t pass on this matchup. He has a 30.2% strikeout rate over the last 30 days.

Dean78904: Robbie Ray – One ticket to the Robbie Ray coaster please. A peak behind the curtain. I’m the last person to submit their favorite pitcher, and I noticed no one else has acknowledged the existence of Robbie Ray. But I get it. Touting chalk Robbie Ray on an 11-game slate is a dangerous game, but I am going to give it a go. The samples are small, but Ray has the slate’s top K rate (33.3%) and 3rd-lowest SIERA (3.39). The hiccup, of course, is too many fly balls and a 10.7% BB rate, which is not ideal. The Braves are expected to get Michael Harris back, but he has fully stunk vs. lefties this season, and collectively, this projected lineup team has struck out at a 25.2% clip vs. LHPs this year. I get it; the general rule is that you are probably not supposed to lean in on Robbie Ray chalk, but the alternatives feel much shakier.

TheLuuch: Edward Cabrera – The words favorite and Edward Cabrera in the same sentence make me feel like a lunatic. It’s an ugly slate for pitching, and I’ll hope that the version of Cabrera that showed up to shut out the Padres and Braves across the last 12 innings shows up again today. Cabrera did the same thing last year – he strung together a few good starts late in the year to try and convince me that he was for real. He always had great stuff (but he can’t control it), and he’s very cheap on both sites. The Phillies have been downright bad lately, and the projected lineup is walking just 6.4% vs. RHP across the last 30 days. The Phillies rank 27th in wRC+, 26th in ISO, and 17th in ISO vs. RHP since July 1. That being said, they have an implied run total north of 5, so Vegas is not a believer in Cabrera (rightfully so). I’m probably going to throw in some large-field cheap sprinkles with some Phillies stacks and prioritize the lefties so I don’t feel like a big dummy when Cabrera ultimately fails!

Alex Sonty: Will Warren – The field is gonna play a strikeout pitcher who struggles with power prevention against a powerful team in a pitcher’s park in Robbie Ray three times more than they’ll play Will Warren — who profiles similarly — against the White Sox is a decent home run park. We can get the same strikeouts and save some money at a fraction of the ownership cost. I wanna play whomever I want at hitter tonight and not feel restricted by ownership, so I’ll have to take some risks at pitcher.
