MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings Expert Survey for Thursday, April 2
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
CheeseIsGood: Bobby Witt Jr.
headChopper: Corbin Carroll
stevietpfl: Ronald Acuna Jr.
Notorious: Corbin Carroll
What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
CheeseIsGood: I prefer smaller-field contests on slates with so few games. On full slates, MME gives you the opportunity to find under-the-radar gems that go completely overlooked, and you can end up with superstar batters at 1% ownership. But on a 3-game slate, no such edge exists, as everything gets played. In single entry and other small contests, if you build some non-stacked lineups without the obvious top pitchers, it becomes very easy to separate yourself without getting too silly. I also like playing a batter or two against my pitcher on these small slates. Pitchers like Cole Ragans and Robbie Ray are exactly the type of pitchers where you can do that, as they can pile up enough strikeouts to win the slate while still allowing 2–3 home runs each.
headChopper: I am playing small-field GPPs with limited entries on the small slate. I am going chalky at pitcher. With only six pitchers to choose from, and three of them being highly volatile with limited upside, Cole Ragans, David Peterson, and Robbie Ray are the three I will select. For the hitting part of my lineup, I am just mixing in 3-3 stacks of my favorite offenses.
stevietpfl: With only a 3-game slate, I’m going to focus on a handful of lineups in small-field contests. As far as the slate itself, we have a few different pitching options to choose from. Cole Ragans is the most talented pitcher on the slate, but he has struggled with command since the start of Spring Training. He’s also going to be the chalkiest pitcher on the slate. I’d say Robbie Ray and David Peterson would be next up, but there isn’t anything safe about any of these pitchers. I think it’s a great slate to be different. I don’t mind playing or stacking against any pitcher on this slate. It’s a slate where I’ll let pOWN% be more of a guide than projections.
Notorious: I prefer small-field tournaments. I’m naturally going to be different from most of the field, as my favorite SP2 on the slate is Ryne Nelson. He’s facing the Braves, who are projected for a ton of ownership. Targeting Nelson immediately makes my build different from most. This is certainly a boom-or-bust strategy in small-field contests, but it could pay huge dividends if Nelson holds Atlanta’s offense in check.
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
