Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?

What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

CheeseIsGood: On a 3-game slate with three clear top pitchers, it’s difficult to differentiate without resorting to random dart-throws. Plus, in large-field MME tournaments, virtually every stack and pitcher draws ownership, diluting the edge of hunting for off-the-radar plays. On these slates, I much prefer small-field tournaments, where you can either lock in the top options or be one of the few taking a shot on a true off-the-wall punt. My preferred way to differentiate here is avoiding full stacks and rostering a bat or two against my own starting pitchers.

headChopper: MLB was clearly making room for the NFL tonight, given how brutal this slate is. I’m running just 1 lineup and taking a balanced approach on this small slate. That means eating chalky pitching since the contrarian options look awful, while targeting hitters from the top three implied totals given the brutal matchups at the bottom. However, if I were running 100+ lineups, I think the prime leverage spot is Philly. In large-field tournaments on a small slate, the theoretical play is stacking Houston. They just put together two strong offensive performances against Andrew Painter and Cristopher Sanchez and can certainly do the same against Zack Wheeler, who has looked beatable at times this season, including recently. In those same large-field tournaments, I’d roster Cristian Javier, whose whiff rate over his last 3 starts is as strong as it was when he was throwing 5-inning no-hitters 3 years ago.

stevietpfl: I’m going to focus on single-entry tournaments. With only a 3-game slate, I find myself focusing on one lineup. I’ll use Jacob deGrom and Zack Wheeler. My two favorite stacks are the Phillies and the Rays. I’ll be underweight on the Braves and play some of the power bats from the Rangers against Logan Gilbert.
