Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS picks

Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks today. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to muse about the June 1, 2026 MLB DFS slate.

Happy Monday and Happy June! As it always seems to go, the year is flying by, and we have somehow made it to June already. Hooray for us!

This Monday slate is a 7-gamer that looks pretty tilted to the pitching side. We’ve got a top tier of 7 good pitchers and some cheaper options that look viable as well. This is leading to a smaller group of top-tier offenses and a whole bunch of random dart-throwing. Let’s dive in and see what we find.

Monday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

Soriano of the Angels

The top 7 pitchers are all above 25% strikeouts this season, with 6 of them better than a 3.40 SIERA. I think every single one of them is playable, but let’s see if we can find some separation out of this group.

TOP TIER PITCHING

This is a very interesting top tier of pitchers. The first thing I see is two of them have great matchups: Jose Soriano against the Rockies and Emerson Hancock at home against Mets. The next thing I see is that while Jacob deGrom has had a very disappointing last 3 starts, his overall numbers for the season are still the best of anyone on this slate, at least in terms of strikeouts, walks, and SIERA. The next thing I see is that Chase Burns is the highest-priced pitcher, which is warranted from his ERA and his pedigree but not necessarily from his actual numbers and his matchup. So, what do we do with all of this? At first glance, I do not know! Let’s see…

I have to think that Jose Soriano is going to be the chalk here, simply because he’s at home against the Rockies. And while that’s great, I am still officially nervous about him right now. The old control woes are back, having 11 total walks in his last 3 starts and 3+ walks in 7 of his 12 starts this season. That is sort of made up for by the ground balls and the long leash, but the ground balls have taken a big step back this season – likely a trade-off for the higher strikeouts. The Rockies are a good-enough matchup that I guess I would say he’s realistically the SP1, but this is chalk that I am very willing to fade. He’s a good pitcher, but I’m not sure that he’s a great pitcher, and I am definitely sure that he is not a safe pitcher in any matchup.

Chase Burns has 2 starts with low strikeouts this season, and he also has 7+ strikeouts in 8 of his 11 starts. Combining with what he did last season and in the minors, I still lean towards thinking this will be a pitcher with at least a 30% K rate, who has the highest upside on this slate (even in this matchup and in his home ballpark). Before we freak out about the matchup and just play Soriano, let me just point something out. Based on tonight’s projected lineups:
