Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Monday 6/2
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Monday! We kick off the new week with a smaller slate of 6 games starting at 7:10 p.m. ET. Despite it being a smaller slate, there is plenty to like on both sides with three high-end aces and at least a half-dozen offenses that appear to have slate-breaking upside. It also appears as if the weather will be cooperating, so we can just sit back and wait for those MLB starting lineups to roll in.

Monday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
We have a very clear split with three elite aces and then a sizeable drop to everyone else on this slate. My initial lean is to just go out of my way to play these top three, but let’s see if we find something else as we dig through them.
TOP TIER TRIO
- Jack Flaherty at White Sox – 29.9% K, 7.9% BB, 3.94 ERA, 3.17 SIERA
- Joe Ryan at A’s– 29.8% K, 3.7% BB, 2.57 ERA, 2.88 SIERA
- Logan Webb vs. Padres – 27.9% K, 5.6% BB, 2.82 ERA, 2.69 SIERA
I can certainly argue that Joe Ryan and Logan Webb are better pitchers than Jack Flaherty. At first glance, the matchup for Flaherty is enough better that I’d say he’s the clear SP1. But a deeper dive shows that maybe this is closer to a 3-way tie.
As bad as the White Sox are, five of their projected batters are below 18% K rates against RHP, so it’s not some extreme strikeout matchup. The big plus is their lack of power, and power to lefties has been the one issue for Flaherty this season. But we’ve also seen his pitch count starting to rise, and the bad luck he’s had on HR/FB this season doesn’t look likely to continue in this matchup. My hunch is that he comes in with fairly extreme ownership on DK and as the highest-owned ace on FD, but all three of these aces should pick up enough that I’m not going to plan my night around that.
Overall, the Padres are a far better lineup than the White Sox, but this is also a lineup that lacks power against righties. Add in the ballpark, and I would call this a plus matchup for run prevention for Logan Webb. The contact throughout the Padres lineup makes another ceiling game very unlikely here, but I absolutely expect another very good start, just like every other start. I prefer Flaherty ahead of Webb, but it’s close.
Joe Ryan has been fantastic this season with the 3rd-best K-BB% of all major league starters. He has been otherworldly against righties with a 38.4% K rate and just 4% walks. Against lefties, the strikeouts drop to average but the elite control remains. He is a fly-ball pitcher who can get hit hard at times, so the power risk is clear to see. What I like here is that only two of the Oakland power bats are lefties, and he should see five righties along with two young lefties who may well be out of their depth at this point. The upside is much easier to see for Ryan than it is for Webb, so I’m playing Ryan as my SP2. I would not argue with you at all if you have Ryan ahead of Flaherty, but I will side with the better matchup for Flaherty as my SP1.
