Happy Tuesday! We have a big ole’ 12-game slate that features a whole bunch of everything. We have a bunch of spend-up aces in various degrees of current form, which makes for some very interesting decisions, and we also have plenty of cheap pitching options on DK that make the slate even more wide open. On the offensive side, the Twins will top the charts again, but then it’s a huge tangly mess of something like a dozen different offenses that could make a case to be in the top tier.

It’s a slate with a ton to like, but not all that much to love. It’s close to something like bananas, just not quite there. I guess that would be plantains. At first glance, it’s almost bananas, just not quite as good.

Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

There are really only 4 pitchers here who are going to make it into my pool, but I’m going to go ahead and list everyone above $8,000 on DK just so we can clearly see the separation in skill sets:

TOP TIER PITCHING

• Gavin Williams at Angels – 32.4% K, 7.7% BB, 3.72 ERA, 2.96 SIERA
• Tyler Glasnow at Braves – First start off IL
• Kyle Harrison at Mets – 30.3% K, 6.5% BB, 2.84 ERA, 3.05 SIERA
• Jacob deGrom at White Sox – 30.3% K, 6.2% BB, 3.77 ERA, 3.05 SIERA
• Paul Skenes at Padres – 29.8% K, 7.2% BB, 3.95 ERA, 3.17 SIERA
• Walbert Urena vs. Guardians – 22.8% K, 12.3% BB, 2.80 ERA, 4.42 SIERA
• Taj Bradley at A’s – 26.4% K, 10.4% BB, 3.90 ERA, 3.96 SIERA
• George Kirby vs. Phillies – 19.9% K, 5.6% BB, 4.18 ERA, 4.05 SIERA
• Michael King vs. Pirates – 21% K, 9.5% BB, 3.38 ERA, 4.40 SIERA

The pricing on this slate looks way different than we would have expected at the beginning of the season, but I can’t say it’s wrong. Gavin Williams is in his own pricing tier, more than $1,000 more than guys like Jacob deGrom and Paul Skenes on both sites. Williams leads the slate with his 32.4% K rate, which is up at a silly 41.7% mark over his last 8 starts. 6 of those 8 starts have come with double-digit strikeouts, and now he gets to face an Angels team whose active roster has the highest strikeout rate in the league against RHP. He is not without some risk, as he still allows power and can have borderline control at times, but for me, he’s the very clear SP1 on this slate, and I won’t overthink it anywhere salary allows.

Tyler Glasnow has been out since May, and while he looked great in his last rehab start and got up to 77 pitches, I would still expect the Dodgers to try and keep him on a fairly tight leash in this first start back. He has elite strikeout ability, and he’s always playable, but this isn’t the slate or the matchup where I’m going to get him into the primary pool at his salary.

Kyle Harrison continues to bounce around all over the place, either striking out everybody or nobody. He’s also kind of all over the place in pitch count, even in the 3 starts since he returned from the IL. He’s really pretty similar to Glasnow for me right now. Both of these guys are 30% + strikeout pitchers, but I don’t think that I have any idea what we’re going to get tonight in either innings or effectiveness. Because we saw Harrison throw 90 pitches 2 starts ago, and 2 of his 3 starts off the IL have come with 8+ strikeouts, I would definitely play him ahead of Glasnow. But he’s a huge step below Williams for me tonight, so let’s see what else we find before deciding where he slots in.
