Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Tuesday 7/29
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Tuesday! We have another 12-game slate that appears to be pretty tangled up on both the pitching and hitting sides. I will try to get things down to a manageable pool, but at least on the hitting side, you could make a case for almost anything tonight.
This is maybe the cleanest MLB weather report we’ve had all season, with not even a hint of yellow, so assuming nothing changes, we are good to play anything and everything.

Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
This is not a great pitching slate, but we do have a couple upside options at the top and a slew of decent mid-tier pitchers in decent matchups. I’m going to use $9,000 on DK as the cutoff between tiers, but we do have a few pricing discrepancies on FD.
TOP TIER PITCHING
- Max Fried vs. Rays – 22.5% K, 5.8% BB, 2.62 ERA, 3.57 SIERA
- Tyler Glasnow at Reds – 31.7% K, 11% BB, 2.75 ERA, 3.40 SIERA
- Sonny Gray vs. Marlins – 26.7% K, 4% BB, 4.33 ERA, 3.09 SIERA
- Jesus Luzardo at White Sox – 27.7% K, 8.8% BB, 4.58 ERA, 3.51 SIERA
- Sean Manaea at Padres – 12 IP this season – 36% K, 8% BB
I guess I’d say that Max Fried is the best real-life pitcher on this slate, but it has been an ugly stretch for him over the past month, and even when he’s good, he’s still not an elite DFS pitcher. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt that the extremely low strikeouts from his past 4 starts have been because of the matchups, but in any matchups, just yikes on a 12:9 K:BB ratio and 14 runs allowed in 4 starts. I’m really not worried about him overall, and I would expect him to get back to being a good pitcher – probably as early as tonight – but that still doesn’t make him some kind of must-play. On DK, I have virtually no interest in him at $10,000. On FD, he is making it into my pool at $9,400, where he would get a bit of a boost from his ability to pitch deeper into games. He’s fine, but let’s see what else we find.
Tyler Glasnow has made 3 starts since coming off of the IL, and he’s gotten stronger each time. His last start was an absolute gem, with 12 strikeouts and 106 pitches in 7 innings.
