Happy Wednesday! We have a split slate day with an early start at 12:35 PM ET. Both sites are running a 6-game early slate and then a 5-game evening slate that starts a few minutes earlier than usual at 6:45 PM ET. We will also have Expert tags and analysis for both slates in our MLB optimizer, LineupHQ.

This all works out in the most glorious way, as we avoid the goofy nonsense that is the Rockies pitching staff in Coors Field. A happy Wednesday indeed!

Wednesday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Suarez of the Phillies

We have a very good group of pitchers for this small slate. I’ll put the 6 pitchers priced above $8,000 on DK into the top tier, and then just look at a couple cheaper options.

TOP TIER PITCHING

There are some good pitchers here, and most of them have good matchups as well.

Ranger Suarez doesn’t have quite the strikeout ability as some of these other aces but does gain some upside from his ability to pitch deep into games, regularly going over 100 pitches. The real key here is the magical matchup with an Orioles team that is straight-up nonsense against lefties. They are a high-strikeout team with no power and no patience. I love Suarez, but on both sites, we have several other good pitchers for more than $1,000 cheaper. So, let’s move on and see where he fits.

Carlos Rodon is the other spend-up, priced above $10k on FD and above $9,000 on DK. He doesn’t have the control or ground balls of Suarez, but he does have more consistent strikeout ability and the same long leash. While they aren’t as bad as Baltimore, Texas is another team that is far weaker against lefties, with plenty of strikeouts in the lineup and only moderate power risk. I slightly prefer Suarez, but I love them both.

Jack Flaherty has the highest strikeout rate on this slate and has been pitching well recently. Just like Suarez and Rodon, he has plenty of leash and a good matchup. He’s more dominant against righties at 31.8% K but still has a plenty good 27.5% K rate against lefties. I would expect the Twins to be mostly left-handed against him, but that also leaves quite a few higher strikeout bats in the lineup. He’s so very close to Suarez and Rodon that I’m going to say he’s my salary-considered SP1 on this slate. However, if the salary doesn’t matter, I would still prefer Suarez and Rodon ahead of him.
