Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks for Wednesday, July 10th
CheeseIsGood, a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Wednesday! We’ve got a 10-game slate on DK and a 9-gamer on FD (they left off the 2nd game of the KCR/STL doubleheader). It looks like the MLB weather will not be an issue tonight, but what will be an issue is figuring out what to do with all the mediocre pitching and the huge tangle of top tier offense. Let’s see what happens as we dig through it.
Wednesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
We have a lack of strong pitching options, but we’re all playing with the same pool, so let’s see what we can find.
TOP TIER PITCHING
Logan Webb vs. Blue Jays – 21.2% K, 5.6% BB, 3.09 ERA, 3.38 SIERA
Framber Valdez vs. Marlins – 19% K, 8.2% BB, 3.84 ERA, 3.81 SIERA
Nick Pivetta vs. A’s – 28.1% K, 6.5% BB, 4.06 ERA, 3.39 SIERA
Chris Bassitt at Giants – 21.1% K, 9.2% BB, 3.43 ERA, 4.35 SIERA
A quick note to start here. There are a few expensive-ish pitchers that are just not going to hit my pool: Cristopher Sanchez, Gavin Stone, and Charlie Morton. The matchups for these three, on top of skill sets that do not stand out, keep them out of my pool. If you wanted to play any of them in MME, have at it, but I’m starting with just the four pitchers listed above.
With the four pitchers I’m starting with, we basically have three good real-life pitchers and then the upside of Nick Pivetta. With Pivetta’s pitching style, he’s always going to be at more power risk than guys like Webb and Valdez. While Oakland has shown the power to do damage, they are also far and away the highest-strikeout team among this group. The strikeouts do come and go a bit for Pivetta, so this is not some sure thing, but I do see him as having the most realistic upside by a sizeable margin. Personally, he’s my SP1 on both sites, considerably more on FD where he’s cheaper than any of the other three pitchers. Even on DK, $9,600 is just not that tough to get to, and I’d rather chase his strikeout ceiling than settling for someone who needs more BABIP help.
As we move down to Logan Webb, Chris Bassitt, and Framber Valdez, we drop to below-average-strikeout pitchers who could be chalky.
