MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play. In this article, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections that are available in our MLB Lineup Optimizer, LineupHQ. However, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

We’ve got a nice 11-game MLB DFS slate on tap for Sunday, though it sounds like we’ll have to navigate some weather. CLE/MIN and LAD/CHC are both ORANGE on Kevin Roth’s morning weather forecast, while MIA/STL is checking in as a straight YELLOW. That’ll make things a little tricky, but it could also help to concentrate ownership on a couple of chalky stacks.

What are those chalky stacks and how can we get different today? Let’s dive in.

Daily Braves Stack – Braves vs. Ryne Nelson

ozzie-albies-800x480

The Braves seemed to put up 9 runs on 4 home runs a day every day last season, and they’re doing similar things to start 2024. Atlanta has a healthy 5.38 implied run total this afternoon at home against Ryne Nelson, yet another middling right-hander filling some early-season innings for the Diamondbacks.

Nelson is sporting a career 16.8% K rate at the MLB level, while he’s been barreled up 11% of the time. His career flyball rate is about 12% higher than his groundball rate, and his career SIERA is well north of 5.00. Impressed yet? It’s easy to see how Nelson will be overmatched by the Braves’ All-Star lineup in this one, and they’re pulling healthy ownership around the industry as a result.

Ronald Acuna, Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Matt Olson, and Marcell Ozuna have all posted ISOs of over .200 vs. right-handed pitching since the beginning of last season. Nelson hasn’t been overly splitsy from the right side, though his numbers do look slightly worse against lefties. The difference isn’t necessarily enough to make guys like Albies and Olson no-brainer priorities over Acuna and Riley, because it’s all just good here.
