Justin Carlucci walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will be looking at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

It’s a busy Thursday in the sports world, but there are only five games for tonight’s main slate on both FanDuel and DraftKings. There are a few aces taking the bump, so there’s sure to be a bunch of condensed ownership on the hitting side. Let’s check out the chalk and then look into some other options too.

Chalk Stacks – Mets vs. Trevor Williams, Orioles vs. Joey Wentz, Twins vs. Zack Greinke

Technically, I just listed about a third of the slate. These three teams currently have three of the highest four projected run totals on the main slate. Early morning pOWN% is being shaken out here at RotoGrinders, but I can tell you these spots are where a bulk of the chalk will rightfully live.

Let’s start with the Mets.

Williams is downright atrocious vs. left-handed hitters. All of his metrics are below average, and he yields a decent chunk of power to lefties. He strikes out just EIGHT PERCENT of left-handed hitters and owns a 4.71 xFIP since the beginning of 2022. It goes without saying that righty Pete Alonso can break any slate, but the Mets have the ability to platoon at least six lefties against Williams tonight.

With chilly temps across the country, one or two homers with a big BABIP attack from a given stack could certainly take down a short slate. Williams is basically a two-trick pony to LHBs, as most of his pitch mix is fastball/change-up. I like the idea of getting to a lot of Francisco Lindor and Daniel Vogelbach within these NYM stacks.

The Orioles are fun and competitive again! I like this spot for the O’s against left-handed hurler Joey Wentz tonight.
