MLB DFS Tournament Strategy: Friday, April 5th

MLB DFS tournament play is unlike that of any other sport. Predicting outcomes with precision is difficult, and player variance is near its peak. There are special considerations when constructing lineups in order for you to find success in the long term. Each weekday, our DFS analysts will examine a specific tournament format and help you understand the application of strategy, via concepts such as pitcher pairings, roster construction, stacking, leverage, ownership, variance, and more.

PItching Texture

Let me excuse myself for a second while I throw up. OK, I’m back. Friday’s starting pitcher options leave a lot to be desired with Collin McHugh and Shane Bieber headlining the slate, as the weather is expected to take out Nick Pivetta and the Minnesota @ Philadelphia game. If you do think that the Philly game will be played, there’s some leverage to be had on both Pivetta and Jake Odorizzi as they are likely going to be under-owned relative to what they would be if there were no weather concerns. We currently have Pivetta projected as the highest owned pitcher on DraftKings (41%) and the second highest owned pitcher on FanDuel (17%) but I expect him to be significantly lower owned than that unless the weather miraculously clears up.
