Pitcher Grind Down
- Rick Porcello – Porcello has pitched good, but not great this season. He is sporting a 3.69 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and a K/9 of 5.8. Tonight he faces a White Sox offense that is a much different animal with Jose Abreu in the lineup. The White Sox are ranked 7th against RH pitching and I think there are better options than Porcello in his price range. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7200 FD, $12733 DS, $15400 DD, $8200 DK, $93900 FF, $20100 SS, $11300 FTD
- Hector Noesi – Noesi has only given up 1 earned run in each of his last 2 starts, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to make me a believer. He’s had an ERA over 5.00 in each of the last 3 seasons and I will continue to avoid him in daily fantasy. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5200 FD, $10342 DS, $9550 DD, $6600 DK, $49900 FF, $14900 SS, $9500 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
Victor Martinez – V-Mart has been raking against LH pitching this season, but has also been very good against RH pitching with a .369 wOBA. Noesi has always struggled with batters from the left side of the plate which bodes well for V-Mart as he is a switch-hitter.
Additional Plays: Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera (if in the lineup – left last night’s game with tightness in his hamstring)
Chicago White Sox
Adam Eaton – This is a great time to buy low on Eaton. His price across the industry is at an all-time low. He’s starting to come out of his slump though as he is riding a 4-game hitting streak. I like the matchup against Porcello who has given up a .348 wOBA to LHB’s this season.
Additional Plays: Jose Abreu, Alexei Ramirez

Pitcher Grind Down
- Vidal Nuno – While Nuno has a respectable K-rate, he has an ERA well over 5.00 and a WHIP well over 1.40. He faces a Royals’ offense that is devoid of power, but they are also an offense that rarely strikes out. Nuno is a slight underdog here and I think there is more downside than upside in this matchup. Rating = 4
Salaries: $4600 FD, $9484 DS, $11350 DD, $6200 DK, $59800 FF, $15500 SS, $9600 FTD
- Jason Vargas – Vargas has a 3.28 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP and a K/9 of 6.6. Tonight he faces a Yankees’ offense that is ranked 19th against LH pitching this season. This is a decent matchup, but he’s not anywhere near the top of my list as must plays tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6100 FD, $14495 DS, $10650 DD, $8200 DK, $88600 FF, $20700 SS, $11700 FTD
Batter Grind Down
NY Yankees
Jacoby Ellsbury – The LHB’s on the Yankees have actually hit lefties pretty well this season. McCann, Suzuki, and Ellsbury all have a .330+ wOBA against LH pitching this season. I like Ellsbury tonight as he has been swinging a hot bat and Vargas hasn’t been particularly great against LHB’s (.328 wOBA).
Additional Plays: Mark Teixeira
Kansas City
Lorenzo Cain – Cain has 7 hits in his last 5 games, he has a .354 wOBA against LH pitching this season, he is facing Nuno who has given up a .325 wOBA to RHB’s, and he is extremely cheap.
Additional Plays: Alcides Escobar, Salvador Perez, Billy Butler

Pitcher Grind Down
- Gavin Floyd – Floyd owns a 2.80 ERA on the season, but his FIP and WHIP suggest that he isn’t pitching as well as his ERA indicates. While I could go on, at the end of the day all that matters is that he will be pitching in Coors Field and that’s a HUGE red flag. Rating = 2
Salaries: $5900 FD, $11722 DS, $11750 DD, $8000 DK, $57800 FF, $19200 SS, $9500 FTD
- Christian Bergman – Bergman will be making his major league debut tonight. He has been pretty average in the minors this season with a 3.84 ERA and a K/9 of 5.7. This is an easy avoid tonight. Rating = 1
Salaries: $3000 FD, $11758 DS, $ DD, $5500 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Atlanta
Freddie Freeman – You aren’t going to find a better matchup than the one the Braves have tonight. They are facing a rookie RH pitcher who is making his first major league start. And they get to face him in Coors Field which has surrendered more runs than any ballpark in baseball. STACK AWAY!
Additional Plays: Justin Upton, Jason Heyward, Evan Gattis, B.J. Upton, Chris Johnson
Colorado
Troy Tulowitzki – At this point in the season I start my lineups with Tulo whenever he is playing at home. His numbers are just ridiculous and I’ll say it again, “fade him at your own risk.”
Additional Plays: Charlie Blackmon, Justin Morneau, Wilin Rosario, Corey Dickerson

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jarred Cosart – Cosart got off to a rocky start this season, but has since righted the ship. He hasn’t given up more than 3 earned runs in any of his last 8 outings. He’s worth keeping an eye on moving forward, but you can safely avoid him tonight against the D-Backs in the hitter friendly Chase Field. Rating = 3
Salaries: $6000 FD, $12329 DS, $11400 DD, $7000 DK, $72300 FF, $16100 SS, $9800 FTD
- Josh Collmenter – Collmenter owns a 3.63 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP and a K/9 of 5.4. He finally has some believers on his side and will have another chance to win over some more people tonight against the Astros. This Astros’ offense has been very feast or famine over the last few weeks. I think Collmenter makes a terrific GPP play and a borderline play on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7000 FD, $12449 DS, $12000 DD, $7500 DK, $82900 FF, $16800 SS, $10500 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Houston
Jon Singleton – The Astros have to be ecstatic with the way that their rookies are playing this season. Singleton hit his 2nd career HR in yesterday’s win over the Twins. He has a pretty nice matchup tonight against Collmenter who has given up a .333 wOBA to LHB’s.
Additional Plays: Jason Castro
Arizona
Paul Goldschmidt – Cosart is a RHP, but he has given up a much higher wOBA to RHB’s than he has to LHB’s. Goldy has always hit RH pitching well and he’s a threat to go deep every night he takes the field, especially when that field is Chase Field.
Additional Plays: Garardo Parra, Miguel Montero, Martin Prado

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jesse Chavez – After a sizzling start to the season, Chavez has really calmed down. He’s only struck out more than 6 batters once in his last 6 starts. The numbers on the season are still good, but he appears to be trending in the wrong direction and that’s not what I like to see out of my starting pitchers. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7700 FD, $14626 DS, $13600 DD, $9500 DK, $78900 FF, $23600 SS, $13800 FTD
- Garrett Richards – After 3 subpar starts in a row, Richards bounced back in a big way by striking out 9 batters over 8 scoreless innings of work against the Astros. I’d like to say that he can keep it going, but that’s a tall task against the A’s who are ranked 3rd against RH pitching this season. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7000 FD, $17224 DS, $15000 DD, $10200 DK, $86900 FF, $25400 SS, $11600 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
Brandon Moss – Moss continued his breakout season with a Grand Slam in yesterday’s win over the Orioles. He has a .399 wOBA against RH pitching this season and has already taken Richards deep 2 times in his career.
Additional Plays: John Jaso, Josh Donaldson, Coco Crisp
LA Angels
Josh Hamilton – Hamilton only has 50 at-bats under his belt this season, but he has been terrific in that small sample size. He’s batting .382 against RH pitching with a wOBA of .453.
Additional Plays: Albert Pujols, Mike Trout

Pitcher Grind Down
- Stephen Strasburg – Once again we are faced with the Strasburg Dilemma. Strasburg has as much upside as any pitcher in baseball, but for whatever reason he has not been able to sustain his success on the road. Since the start of 2013, his road ERA is nearly 2.5 times that of his home ERA. I think he breaks the trend tonight, but I’ve expected him to buck the trend in the past and it hasn’t happened. Rating = 9
Salaries: $9900 FD, $23010 DS, $20250 DD, $11400 DK, $113100 FF, $31500 SS, $18400 FTD
- Ryan Vogelsong – Vogelsong has really pitched well over his last 8 starts. While the Nationals’ offense has been surging of late, so has Vogelsong so something has to give in this matchup. Vegas has the total set at only 6.5 runs so it looks like they are siding with Vogelsong here. I think he is in play on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Salaries: $6100 FD, $15499 DS, $14400 DD, $9700 DK, $87400 FF, $24000 SS, $11600 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Washington
Adam LaRoche – I’m not crazy about either offense in this game, but I do think LaRoche carries some value as an upside play at 1B. He has a .423 wOBA against LH pitching this season and is facing Vogelsong who has given up a .329 wOBA to LHB’s.
Additional Plays: Ian Desmond
San Francisco
Even though Stephen Strasburg has struggled on the road, there aren’t any batters on the Giants that I will be targeting tonight. Strasburg has held both LHB’s and RHB’s to a .279 wOBA this season.
