Pitcher Grind Down
- Jake Peavy – With trade rumors swirling, Peavy will take the mound today in Houston to battle the Astros. He’s pitched quite well in each of his last two starts, but has really struggled away from Fenway Park this season where he owns a 1-4 road record to go along with a 6.00 ERA. The Astros rank #26th in MLB in OPS versus right-handed pitching (.669 OPS) and lead MLB in strikeouts, so there is a little bit to like here. These Astros hitters have never faced him before and I expect a solid performance from Peavy today. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $6300 FD, $11554 DS, $12100 DD, $6700 DK, $53600 FF, $14700 SS, $12100 FTD
- Brett Oberholtzer – With Collin McHugh scratched from his scheduled start today, Houston will once again turn to Brett Oberholtzer to take on the Red Sox. Oberholtzer owns a 2-7 record and 4.66 ERA on the season, so he’s not a preferred fantasy option. He was blasted in his last start and owns a 5.60 ERA at home this season. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5700 FD, $ DS, $9650 DD, $5800 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Boston
Dustin Pedroia – Pedroia owns a career .311 batting average against left-handed pitching and Oberholtzer has struggled against right-handed pitching. He’s hitting .326 during the month of July.
Additional Plays: Jonny Gomes
Houston
George Springer – Springer owns a .363 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season and has homered in two straight games. His raw power makes him a great GPP target but he was scratched on Friday with knee discomfort, so make sure he’s back in the lineup today.
Additional Plays: Jon Singleton

Pitcher Grind Down
- Drew Hutchison – Hutchinson is somewhat quietly having a very solid year for the Blue Jays and despite pitching in the AL East he still sports a 3.86 ERA and 8 K’s/9 through 18 starts. He has been excellent away from Toronto this season, posting a 4-3 record with a 2.43 ERA in 11 road starts. He held the Rays scoreless over 5.1 innings in his last visit to Tropicana Field, but Tampa did rough him up in their last meeting in Toronto. He’s very capable of pitching a gem in any given outing, but his inconsistencies make him a bit of a gamble in cash games. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $5900 FD, $14055 DS, $12200 DD, $6400 DK, $71400 FF, $19600 SS, $12200 FTD
- Jake Odorizzi – Odorizzi moves his scheduled start up a day to fill in for David Price today. He has been terrific all season at Tropicana Field, posting a 2.73 ERA over 56 innings. He’s been locked in lately, posting a 2.21 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 38 strikeouts over the last 36.2 innings. Toronto is not an easy opponent to take on, but they’re lineup certainly takes a hit with E5 on the DL. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7100 FD, $14271 DS, $14400 DD, $7800 DK, $94600 FF, $18500 SS, $14400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Toronto
Jose Reyes – Reyes brings a seven game hitting streak into today’s game and has racked up nine hits over the last three games. He should find himself in his usual leadoff spot for the Blue Jays and is a great option at SS if you can’t afford to pay up for Tulo.
Additional Plays: Jose Bautista, Melky Cabrera
Tampa Bay
Kevin Kiermaier – He broke out of his mini slump in a big way on Thursday night, going 4-4 with a grand slam. He has destroyed right-handed pitching this season to the tune of a .438 wOBA and is still reasonably priced on most sites.
Additional Plays: Matt Joyce, Desmond Jennings, Ben Zobrist

Pitcher Grind Down
- Kevin Correia – I’ll keep this one short and sweet. He’s nothing more than an average MLB pitcher, he offers very little strikeout potential and this game will be played at Coors Field. This is a fairly easy avoid. Rating = 2
Salaries: $5300 FD, $6590 DS, $9350 DD, $5600 DK, $51500 FF, $13000 SS, $9350 FTD
- Tyler Matzek – Matzek hasn’t quite gotten the hang of pitching at Coors Field yet, as he owns a 5.89 home ERA after his first three starts. Facing the Twins isn’t a daunting task, but they do have a few player who hit left-handed pitching well and there are better options on the board who aren’t stuck pitching in Coors Field. Rating = 3.5
Salaries: $5200 FD, $11020 DS, $13250 DD, $5800 DK, $56500 FF, $13000 SS, $13250 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Minnesota
Brian Dozier – Dozier is a great option at 2B today as he owns a .371 wOBA against left-handed pitching and sees a nice fantasy boost from hitting inside Coors Field. He reached base three times in last night’s game to raise his batting average to .340 on the season.
Additional Plays: Trevor Plouffe, Kurt Suzuki
Colorado
Troy Tulowitzki – He’s the clear #1 choice at shortstop today as he has a nice matchup against Kevin Correia. He owns a 1.281 OPS at Coors Field this season and has homered three times in the last two games.
Additional Plays: Charlie Blackmon, Corey Dickerson, Carlos Gonzalez, Justin Morneau, Nolan Arenado

Pitcher Grind Down
- Tom Koehler – Koehler was blasted for eight runs in just three innings of work in his last start (in Arizona) but held the Phillies scoreless with just three hits in six innings in the previous start. He has pitched quite well in three starts against the Mets this season (2.70 ERA in 20 innings) but a win avoided him in each start. He has really struggled on the road this season, but considering the ballpark and somewhat feeble Mets lineup he’s still in play today where he’s cheap. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6100 FD, $15775 DS, $12750 DD, $6100 DK, $78100 FF, $18400 SS, $12750 FTD
- Daisuke Matsuzaka – After coughing up five earned runs in two consecutive starts, Dice-K bounced back nicely by holding the Braves scoreless over seven innings in his last start. His control is a huge concern, but he has been nearly unhittable at Shea Stadium this season. In 32.2 home innings he’s posted a 1.10 ERA and 1.01 WHIP while striking out nearly a batter per inning. With the Marlins struggling to score runs on the road this season, all things are pointing towards this being a nice matchup for Dice-K…. but I’m still gun-shy to give him a full endorsement. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5200 FD, $11312 DS, $11050 DD, $5900 DK, $68200 FF, $13600 SS, $ FTD

Miami
Jarrod Saltalamacchia – Here is your BvsP play of the day, Salty is 5 for 7 off of Dice-K with three doubles.
Additional Plays: Christian Yelich, Giancarlo Stanton
NY Mets
David Wright – It’s been a somewhat down season for Wright, but he’s heating up now. He had four hits last night and is now hitting .385 during the month of July. He’s had success against Koehler in the past, going 6 for 17 with three doubles.
Additional Plays: Lucas Duda

Pitcher Grind Down
- Rick Porcello – After back-to-back complete game shutouts, that thud you heard on Sunday night was Porcello coming back to earth as he was tagged for seven earned runs on 11 hits in just 5.2 innings against Tampa. He baffled the Royals in their only previous meeting this season, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven innings. With a 7-2 record and 3.10 ERA on the road this season, Porcello is a fine option today. However, his low strikeout totals (5.13 K’s/9) really limit his fantasy ceiling. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7100 FD, $15660 DS, $13850 DD, $7000 DK, $101100 FF, $22000 SS, $13850 FTD
- James Shields – After four consecutive sub-par starts, Shields bounced back in a big way in his last outing by striking out 10 and tossing seven shutout innings against Tampa Bay. Today he’ll do battle against a Detroit team that ranks #2 in MLB in OPS against right-handed pitching (.774 team OPS) and that brutalized him for eight runs in their last meeting. He’s certainly capable of putting together a huge outing, but he’s not really worth his asking price today and would best be used as a GPP flier. Rating = 5
Salaries: $8300 FD, $15906 DS, $14900 DD, $8600 DK, $84300 FF, $23800 SS, $14900 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
Miguel Cabrera – Miggy is never a bad option but he’s had particular success against Shields in the past, going 19 for 47 with eight doubles and a pair of homeruns.
Additional Plays: Torii Hunter, Austin Jackson
Kansas City
Eric Hosmer – Hosmer is locked in at the plate right now, owning a .462 average during July. He’s also had success against Porcello in the past, going 5 for 16 with a pair of homeruns.
Additional Plays: Alex Gordon
