Pitcher Grind Down
- Samuel Deduno – Deduno was faced with a quality matchup at home against the Houston Astros in his last outing and he didn’t take advantage, giving up five runs before being pulled after three innings of work. His ERA has been on a slow climb for over a month now and this afternoon’s matchup in Detroit is far from ideal. He pitched admirably against the Tigers earlier this season, but this Tigers team sits near the top of the league in OPS versus right-handed pitchers as well as OPS at home. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5200 FD, $8559 DS, $8850 DD, $4500 DK, $49100 FF, $13000 SS, $NA FTD
- Anibal Sanchez – Despite a miniscule 2.24 ERA through his first 10 starts of the season, Sanchez inexplicably has only recorded two wins on the young season. He’s yet to allow more than three runs in any start and has only allowed three runs one time. He absolutely dominated this Minnesota team last season, posting a 1.78 ERA over five starts. With nearly a strikeout per inning on the season, he’s one of the best pitching options of the day. Rating = 8.5
Salaries: $8600 FD, $18597 DS, $16400 DD, $10100 DK, $118400 FF, $27000 SS, $16400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Minnesota
Opponents are only hitting .181 against Sanchez this season and current members of the Twins have hit just .168 off of him in the past (19 for 113) so I will not be targeting any of the Minnesota batters today.
Detroit
Miguel Cabrera – Miggy owns a .427 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season and is in a great spot here to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
Additional Plays: Austin Jackson, Victor Martinez, Ian Kinsler

Pitcher Grind Down
- Charlie Morton – Morton has rather quietly been very effective lately. Since the beginning of last season, he sports an impressive 3.21 ERA in 33 starts. He’s been terrific in each of his last four outings but has struggled a bit on the road this season. He should benefit from some decent run support with Randy Wolf on the hill for the Marlins, so he’s in play on mult-pitcher sites. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6700 FD, $15302 DS, $13950 DD, $8400 DK, $91800 FF, $22100 SS, $13950 FTD
- Randy Wolf – Wolf had been oddly effective prior to getting smacked around a bit in his last start against the Cubbies. The Pirates have several batters in their lineup that feast on left-handed pitching which certainly hurts whatever fantasy value Wolf still maintains. If you’re considering using Wolf today, than you’re braver than I am. Rating = 3.5
Salaries: $5400 FD, $8858 DS, $9550 DD, $6500 DK, $70500 FF, $14800 SS, $9550 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
Andrew McCutchen – The reigning NL MVP is locked in at the plate right now and has recorded two hits in each of the last six games. He’s hitting .408 so far during the month of June and brings a rediculous .481 wOBA against lefties into today’s game. He is an excellent option against the soft-tossing southpaw Randy Wolf.
- Additional Plays: Starling Marte, Jordy Mercer
Miami
Christian Yelich – Yelich is swinging a very hot bat right now and has posted a 1.328 OPS over the last seven days. He should find himself right near (or at) the top of the Marlins order once again and can rack up fantasy points in a variety of ways.
Additional Plays: Giancarlo Stanton, Garrett Jones

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jesse Hahn – Hahn will once again be called on by the Padres today, but San Diego is hoping for better results this time out. He was pounded in his MLB debut and was forced out of the game after just 3.2 innings. He’ll be making the jump from AA and his longest start of the season in the minors is just 5.2 innings, so he’s not a viable fantasy option today. Rating = 2
Salaries: $3000 FD, $11722 DS, $8150 DD, $NA DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Zack Wheeler – Wheeler will probably be a popular selection today, and for good reason. He wasn’t on his “A” game in his last outing, but prior to that he had strung together three straight very impressive starts. He’ll take on+A332 MLB’s lowest scoring team, the San Diego Padres, at home where he owns a 3.28 ERA this season. He’s averaging more than a strikeout per inning this season and the matchup can’t get much more favorable so, considering his value price on some sites, he’s a great play in both cash games and GPP’s. Rating = 8
Salaries: $7000 FD, $16226 DS, $12850 DD, $7700 DK, $86900 FF, $21400 SS, $12850 FTD
Batter Grind Down
San Diego
Seth Smith – He’s been quite lately but he’s still the Padres most dangerous offensive weapon. Lefties are hitting .303 off of Wheeler this season and Smith owns a .405 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season
- Additional Plays: Will Venable
NY Mets
Daniel Murphy – Hahn has struggled with lefties at AA San Antonio and coughed up two homeruns to lefties in his MLB debut, and Murphy should find himself right near the top of the order today. He’s hitting .327 so far during the month of June and brings a seven game hitting streak into today’s game.
- Additional Plays: David Wright, Bobby Abreu

Pitcher Grind Down
- Chris Archer – Archer has been completely dominating lately, posting a 0.87 ERA and 33 strikeouts over his last five starts (31 innings pitched). While this year’s version of the Astro’s is undeniably better than last seasons, Archer cruised through both meetings, posting a 1.20 ERA and .67 WHIP in 15 innings. Despite his recent success, his asking price is still very reasonable on most sites making him a very solid option today. Rating = 7.5
Salaries: $7600 FD, $17064 DS, $14250 DD, $9200 DK, $89000 FF, $NA SS, $14250 FTD
- Jarred Cosart – One of the things that has surpised me the most so far this season is the performance of the Astro’s starting pitching, and Cosart is a prime example. Cosart was terrific for Houston at the end of last season, posting a rediculous 1.95 ERA in ten starts. However, he got off to a very rough start in 2014 but has since settled back into rather impressive form. He owns a 4-3 record and 3.13 ERA over his last nine starts and hasn’t allowed a homerun in any of his last seven outings. Tampa Bay has really struggled to score runs on the road this season (2.88 runs per game) which makes Cosart worth a look on multi-pitcher sites if the asking price is right. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $6300 FD, $11559 DS, $12400 DD, $7000 DK, $77400 FF, $17400 SS, $12400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Tampa Bay
Kevin Kiermaier – Granted it’s a small sample size, but Kiermaier has absolutely mashed right-handed pitching. He brings a 0.539 wOBA versus righties into today’s game and appears to be thriving in the #2 spot of the Ray’s batting order.
Additional Plays: Desmond Jennings, Evan Longoria, David DeJesus
Houston
George Springer – If you’re going to pick on Archer right now, you’ll want to do it from the right-side of the plate and Springer is proving to be their most dangerous weapon. He owns a .387 wOBA against right-handed pitching and has already shown off his multi-homerun power this season.
- Additional Plays: Dexter Fowler

Pitcher Grind Down
- Mat Latos – Latos will make his season debut tonight and it will be a welcomed site for Reds fans. He’s the ace of the Reds staff but I’m still a bit concerned about his health. He was sharp in his last rehab start, but I think it’s wise to give him a few starts to get up to full speed. Rating = 6
Salaries: $8000 FD, $NA DS, $5050 DD, $NA DK, $NA FF, $13000 SS, $NA FTD
- Yovani Gallardo – Gallardo was dealing in his last outing, tossing seven innings of shutout ball while striking out eight Pirates. He came out of the gates very strong this season, but things had falled apart pretty quickly prior to his last start. The Reds managed to put up a four spot on him earlier this season, but Gallardo had success against them last season (3.18 ERA in five starts). He’s too inconsistent for my liking in cash games, but his potential upside is perfect for GPP’s. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6900 FD, $14432 DS, $13300 DD, $7300 DK, $ FF, $19400 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cincinnati
Jay Bruce – Bruce has come alive lately and is a solid option anytime he’s facing a right-handed pitcher. He’s had plenty of success against Gallardo in the past, going 15 for 42 with a pair of longballs.
- Additional Plays: Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Devin Mesoraco, Todd Frazier
Milwaukee
Jonathan Lucroy – Lucroy brings a nine game hitting streak into today’s game and is hitting .404 during the month of June. He owns a very solid 0.392 wOBA against right-handed pitching and has had success off of Latos in the past (3 for 10 with a pair of doubles and three walks).
Additional Plays: Carlos Gomez
