Pitcher Grind Down
- Travis Wood – Wood has not been good this season for the Cubs and has a 4.95 ERA to show for it. He will bring his high ERA and his 1.43 WHIP into a matchup against the Phillies and their lineups of lefties. Though the lefties give Wood a bit more fantasy potential, I am unable to trust him in the current form he is in. Rating = 3
Salaries: $6900 FD, $12222 DS, $10100 DD, $6500 DK, $71000 FF, $16100 SS, $10100 FTD
- A.J. Burnett – Burnett is looking to build off one of his few good performances of the season today against the Cubs. Burnett has not been the pitcher he was last year as he has a over 4 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He continues to strike batters out and brings a decent 7.24 K/9 into a game against the Cubs who are in the top 5 in the league in team strikeouts. Burnett makes a good GPP play today as his price is low and should be in line for the win. Rating = 5*
Salaries: $7100 FD, $15888 DS, $13500 DD, $7700 DK, $76200 FF, $20500 SS, $12950 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Chicago Cubs
Anthony Rizzo – Rizzo has been one of the best bats for the low scoring Cubs this year. Burnett is allowing a wOBA of .356 against them on the year and Rizzo could take advantage of that today.
Additional Plays: Luis Valbuena
Philadelphia
Marlon Byrd – Righties have been the problem for Wood on the year as he has allowed them to hit .297 against him. Byrd his LH pitching far better than RH and should be in the cleanup spot for the Phillies today.
Additional Plays: Jimmy Rollins John Mayberry Jr.

Pitcher Grind Down
- David Price – Price continues to be a very consistent pitcher this year despite a slightly high ERA for him at 3.97. For fantasy purposes, Price goes deep into games as well as pitch count as he has gone over 110 pitches in each of his last 5 starts. His 10.02 K/9 rate is raises his fantasy value tremendously as well as the fact that his matchup against the Astros and their second in the league strikeouts squad. He is one of the heavier favorites today and makes a great fantasy start for both cash and GPP plays. Rating = 8
Salaries: $9500 FD, $22555 DS, $20000 DD, $10600 DK, $109000 FF, $29100 SS, $19700 FTD
- Brad Peacock – Peacock has a 4.50 ERA and a high 1.52 WHIP this season for the Astros. Peacocks problem is he rarely goes deep into the game or pitch count this year, but does have a respectable 8.27 K/9. The matchup is decent against the Rays offense, but Peacock is a large underdog and has Price on the hill against him. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5900 FD, $13108 DS, $10800 DD, $6500 DK, $73800 FF, $16600 SS, $10800 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Tampa Bay
Matt Joyce – Joyce continues to be in play when RH pitching takes the mound against him. He has been struggling with the rest of the Rays, but is still hitting .292 against them with a .810 OBP.
Additional Plays: Ben Zobrist
Houston
Jose Altuve – Altuve should be back in action on Sunday, but make sure to check lineups. The best hitter in the Astros lineup has a tough matchup, but has crushed LH pitching this year for over .400 and a .554 SLG.

Pitcher Grind Down
- James Shields – James Shields bounced back from a few rough outings to post a 8 strikeout performance against the Yankees. Even after giving up 15 earned runs in his previous 3 starts, he still has a 3.44 ERA and 1.25 WHIP on the season. This goes to show the type of pitcher he was prior to this rough streak. He gets to face a White Sox offense that has Abreu back, but continues to lead the league in strikeouts by a wide margin. Combine this with Shields’ decent 7.66 K/9 and he makes for a good play today. Rating = 7
Salaries: $8400 FD, $18115 DS, $16250 DD, $9000 DK, $93000 FF, $24800 SS, $16250 FTD
- Andre Rienzo – Rienzo finally had the real blowup performance that many of us DFS fans had been stacking for against the Angels. Rienzo has been pretty consistently bad throughout the season and has a 5.25 ERA and 1.50 WHIP to show for it. He does not strike a ton of guys out nor does he go deep into games. Rienzo is an easy avoid as a heavy underdog today. . Rating = 3*
Salaries: $4800 FD, $9443 DS, $9800 DD, $5000 DK, $51500 FF, $13000 SS, $9800 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Kansas City
Eric Hosmer – Rienzo is giving up a wOBA of .352 to LH batters and Hosmer is having a good recent 7 days hitting .333 with a home run.
Additional Plays: Alex Gordon
Chicago White Sox
Alexei Ramirez Shields has been good, but Ramirez has hit him well in his career. Alexei is 19/45 with 2 home runs against Shields.
Additional Plays: Gordon Beckham

Pitcher Grind Down
- Mike Leake – Leake has been on a very poor run of late and has given up 5 earned runs in his last two starts against the Dodgers and Giants. Prior to this, he had a sub 3.00 ERA on the season and has shown that he can pitch well against this Brewers team that he went 8 innings and gave up only 2 earned runs against. His recent struggles worry me a bit, but he has shown that he can strikeout enough batters to make a decent GPP play. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6800 FD, $12198 DS, $12600 DD, $7500 DK, $73900 FF, $19400 SS, $12600 FTD
- Marco Estrada – Estrada brings his 4.56 ERA into a game against the Reds today. He, along with Leake, has struggled recently and has allowed 18 earned runs in his last 4 starts. He has been torched by the long ball giving up 8 during that 4 game span, which could be a problem today in hitter friendly Miller Park. I am avoiding Estrada with the Reds big bats finally healthy today. Rating = 4
Salaries: $7300 FD, $15456 DS, $14950 DD, $7500 DK, $85400 FF, $21100 SS, $14950 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cincinnati
Joey Votto – His price is still low and he is consistent as they come for cash games. He could add to Estrada’s large home run total today.
Additional Plays: Jay Bruce Brandon Phillips
Milwaukee
Ryan Braun – Braun has been just as good against RH pitching as LH pitching this year. His price is a bit down and he has gone yard against Leake in the past.
Additional Plays: Rickie Weeks

Pitcher Grind Down
- Doug Fister – Fister got a late start to the season due to injury, but has been very good and consistent in his 7 starts so far. Since he struggled in his first start, he has not given up more than 2 runs in any of the rest of his 6 starts. He holds a 2.68 ERA and 1.03 WHIP on the season. His 6.39 K/9 depresses his fantasy value a bit, but his ability to keep batters off the bases makes him a good start for multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Salaries: $8000 FD, $16559 DS, $16850 DD, $9200 DK, $97800 FF, $24600 SS, $16850 FTD
- Jaime Garcia – Garcia is coming off his best start of the season against the best offense he has faced yet in the Blue Jays. He has a tough matchup against the Washing Nationals who have a team average of .286 against LH pitching. Garcia makes a good GPP play today as we have seen his upside in his last start and has a decent 7.39 K/9 as well. Rating = 6
Salaries: $5800 FD, $15569 DS, $13000 DD, $8800 DK, $89400 FF, $23100 SS, $13000 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Washington
Anthony Rendon – Rendon has clearly cooled off from the start of the season, but is still in play when he faces a LH pitcher this year. He is batting .370 against lefties with a 1.000 OPS.
Additional Plays: Jayson Werth
St. Louis
Matt Carpenter – Fister’s weakness has been against LH batters as he has given up a .305 AVG so far this season. Carpenter’s price is playable at most sites and could payoff today for cash games.
Additional Plays: Mat Adams
