Pitcher Grind Down
- Homer Bailey – Bailey got shelled by the Cardinals in his first start of the season as he let 10 batters reach base while giving up 4 earned runs in only 4 1/3 innings. He now has to face them again, although this time the game will be played in St. Louis. I expect a better performance out of him, but not good enough to warrant fantasy consideration. Rating = 5
- Lance Lynn – Lynn was terrific at Busch Stadium last season. In 16 starts at home he posted a 2.82 ERA with a K/9 just under 9. His numbers on the road were a much different story, but luckily for us he is pitching at home tonight. The Reds knocked him around a bit in his first start of the season, but I think he pitches much better this time around and picks up a W. Rating = 7
Batter Grind Down
Cincinnati
- Joey Votto – Votto is really the only Reds batter that I will have any exposure to tonight. Lynn gave up a .340 wOBA to LH batters last season and Votto is one of the best hitters in baseball. Take advantage of his cheap price tag on a few sites.
- Additional Plays: None
St. Louis
- Matt Carpenter – Carpenter is an on-base machine. Last season he hit for a .329 average against RH pitching and hit for a .360 average at home. He gets both of those splits in his favor tonight against Bailey.
- Additional Plays: Kolten Wong, Matt Adams
Chicago White Sox at Colorado

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jose Quintana – Jordan Lyles is trying to screw up everything we know about daily fantasy baseball. He only allowed 1 earned run over almost 7 innings of work last night in Coors Field. While that was very impressive, it is not enough for me to avoid the Cardinal rule in DFS: Avoid all pitchers in Coors Field. Rating = 2
- Franklin Morales – The total for this game is set at 10.0 runs. I’ll save you some time, just avoid both of these pitchers and stack hitters from both teams. Rating = 2
Batter Grind Down
Chicago
- Dayan Viciedo – Viciedo should be in the lineup tonight as the White Sox will be facing the lefty Morales. Viciedo is not going to be an everyday player this year, but typically bats right in the heart of the order when he is in the lineup. Viciedo has an .898 OPS against LH pitching over the last 3 seasons.
- Additional Plays: Jose Abreu, Marcus Semien, Alexei Ramirez
Colorado
- Troy Tulowitzki – While they were fairly obvious plays yesterday, I really hope that you took my advice and rostered both Tulo and Cargo as both homered in their big win. Tulo makes a terrific play again tonight. Quintana is not great against RH batters and Tulo has always hit LH pitching well.
- Wilin Rosario – Rosario should be in the lineup tonight as he and Tulo both got the day off on Saturday. Rosario hit for a .323 average and an OPS of .901 against LH pitching last season. He’s one of the top catchers on the board.
- Additional Plays: Carlos Gonzalez, Michael Cuddyer

Pitcher Grind Down
- Hector Santiago – Santiago is a serviceable pitcher that makes a nice play when the matchup is right. I don’t think that’s the case tonight against a much improved Mariners offense. While Safeco Field is always thought of as a pitcher’s ballpark, it actually gave up the 15th most runs last season which is probably higher than most people think. Rating = 4
- James Paxton – Paxton looked terrific in his first start of the season. He struck out 9 batters in 7 innings of work against the Angels in L.A. Now he gets to face them at home. The Angels will at least have some at-bats against Paxton now, but I still think he makes a nice upside play. His K-rate is impressive. Rating = 7
Batter Grind Down
Los Angeles
- I’m not crazy about the batters from either team today. This is expected to be a low scoring game and the Angels really struggled to figure out Paxton the other night.
- Additional Plays: None
Seattle
- Abraham Almonte – Almonte is a player that very few people know much about, but he is off to a great start this season and has both power and speed. He is a switch hitter that hits well from both sides of the plate. He is still cheap across the industry and is one of my favorite value plays tonight.
- Additional Plays: Justin Smoak

Pitcher Grind Down
- Max Scherzer – Scherzer is the most expensive pitcher on most sites across the industry and for good reason. He has one of the highest K-rates in baseball as he averaged 10.1 per 9 innings pitched last season. The matchup against the Dodgers may not look great on paper with Ramirez, Gonzalez, and Puig that he has to deal with, but Scherzer is pitching against a NL team. He will get a free pass as he will face an opposing pitcher that has to bat at least a couple of times. Scherzer is my top overall pitcher today. Rating = 10
- Dan Haren – Haren is hoping to have a bounce back season, but it’s going to take more than 1 start for him to persuade me that he can keep the ball in the ballpark. He has always given up a lot of HR’s which is never a good thing when you have to face a guy like Miguel Cabrera. Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
- Miguel Cabrera – I’m not sure that I will be paying up for Miggy in my cash games tonight, but he does make a nice tournament play against Haren who gave up 28 HR’s last season. Miggy gets the nod as the “Dong of the Day.”
- Additional Plays: None
Los Angeles
- Scherzer is one of, if not the best pitcher in baseball. Do not take any Dodgers bats tonight.
