Happy Friday! Major League Baseball has 13 games on tap for Friday evening. The Pirates and Guardians have been postponed due to the poor air quality stemming from the wildfires coming from Canada.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. Poor air quality in the midwest and in some places on the east coast could lead to poor visibility for hitters and defense.
Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Friday, July 17th!
Best MLB Player Props for Friday, July 17th
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM ET on Friday, July 17th:
- Bailey Ober Over/Under 3.5 Strikeouts
- Cal Quantrill Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
- Brice Turang Over/Under 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Bailey Obever OVER 3.5 Strikeouts (-122, Novig)
Returning from the injured list on July 9, Ober faced 19 batters and threw 74 pitches against the Guardians. Tonight, Ober should face roughly 20 batters and be around 80 pitches, which should be more than enough opportunity to get to 4 strikeouts.
Ober had 5 strikeouts and a 12.2% swinging-strike rate against Cleveland earlier this month. He’s rested for tonight’s action against the Cubs and will face a Chicago lineup that has plenty of targets, with Pete Crow-Armstrong, Seiya Suzuki, Michael Busch, Ian Happ, and Michael Conforto all striking out at a 27% rate or worse since the beginning of June against right-handed pitching.
Cal Quantrill UNDER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-165, DraftKings)
Quantrill completed 6 innings in his last start before the All-Star Break, but he was nearly perfect in that outing against Houston. It’s also worth noting that the Rangers’ arm barn was in dire shape heading into that outing following news that Jacob deGrom was not going to make his last scheduled start before the break.
Tonight, Texas has all of their relievers rested. Quantrill isn’t likely to hold his opponent to 1 earned run on many occasions given the underwhelming quality of his arsenal. The Rangers would likely be more than happy with 5 innings from Quantrill on Friday.
Brice Turang OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-122, DraftKings)
Turang has a .297 batting average and 154 wRC+ against right-handed pitching in 2026. Tonight, he gets to face Sandy Alcantara, who has struggled to a 4.19 FIP and 1.26 WHIP across the platoon this season. This is good value for a talented hitter, who is in the 3-hole this evening.
