Best MLB Player Props for Tuesday, May 5th
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Tuesday, May 5th:
- Sandy Alcantara Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
- Kevin Gausman Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
- Shohei Ohtani Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
Sandy Alcantara OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-163, DraftKings)
Alcantara has faced 24+ batters in each of his first 7 starts to begin 2026. He’s been ultra-efficient on the bump, limiting quality contact and trusting his defense to convert balls in play into outs. Alcantara’s 4.83 FIP and 1.32 WHIP across the platoon is of slight concern, but Baltimore has only 5 LHB in tonight’s lineup. Factor in Miami’s relatively taxed bullpen, and it’s difficult to see Alcantara being pulled before the 7th inning unless he is shellacked.
Kevin Gausman OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-137, Caesars)
Gausman has faced 24+ batters in 4 of his last 5 turns through the Toronto rotation – the lone exception being his most recent outing against the Twins in which he was lifted after 5.2 innings. Gausman hasn’t been elite in 2026, but he’s still shown a willingness to attack the zone against both RHB and LHB. Tampa Bay has been one of the less patient offenses in baseball this year, which could help keep Gausman’s pitch count on the lower end this evening. Gausman has thrown as many as 97 pitches in a game this season and should be tasked with trying to go deep into this game after the Blue Jays’ heavy bullpen usage over the last couple of days.
Shohei Ohtani OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-141, DraftKings)
In 5 turns through the Dodgers rotation this season, Ohtani has yet to face fewer than 22 batters or record fewer than 18 outs. Tonight, he will face a Houston lineup featuring 7 RHB. In same-sided matchups this season, Ohtani has a 1.56 FIP and 1.03 WHIP. Manager Dave Roberts has been vocal about not wanting to unnecessarily go to his bullpen in 2026. Even with a rested arm barn behind him this evening, it’s likely that we see Ohtani be given every opportunity to complete the 6th inning.
