MLB Player Props Today

Alex Cobb u18.5 outs recorded (-145), BetMGM

In three of his last four starts, Alex Cobb has recorded at least 21 outs, which makes an under in this spot against an anemic Philadelphia Phillies offense seem counterintuitive. Simply, it is difficult for a starting pitcher to consistently work that deep into ballgames, regardless of the opponent on the other side of the matchup. In 2022, Cobb never managed to record 19 outs or more in consecutive starts. Undeniably, Cobb has a favorable matchup tonight against the Phillies, but the presence of up to six left-handed bats could be enough to get Cobb out of the game prior to the seventh inning. Do not overinvest here, but take the under.

Justin Steele u4.5 strikeouts (-134), FanDuel

Entering play on Tuesday, Justin Steele has gone under this market number in each of his last three starts. The last time Steele had more than five strikeouts in a game was on April 14 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Steele has been getting very few swings and misses, with a single-digit SwStr% in three of his last five turns through the rotation. Compounding matters, Steele has been struggling to get hitters to chase pitches outside of the strike zone, with an O-Swing% of less than 24.0% in two of his last four starts – with the other two starts in that span coming against the undisciplined Miami Marlins. Tonight, Steele will have to contend with a Houston Astros lineup that has struck out less frequently against left-handed pitching than any other team in baseball this year. Factor in that the strikeout-averse Chris Guccione will be calling balls and strikes this evening, and we have a strong recipe for an under.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Masataka Yoshida less than 0.5 hitter strikeouts, PrizePicks

We targeted this look on Sunday night, and we ended up being successful, so we decided to it back one more time yesterday, but Masataka Yoshida ended up being out of the lineup. Our thought process has not changed in the last 24 hours, so we are back here with the same look once again! Entering play, Yoshida has struck out in only 10.0% of his plate appearances this season. Somehow, Yoshida had fallen victim to a strikeout in three of his prior four games before yesterday’s contest against the St. Louis Cardinals. Simply, we are taking advantage of some regression to the mean in this spot with an extremely disciplined, high-contact hitter. Yoshida will face Luis Castillo tonight, who has less impressive strikeout numbers against left-handed batters than he does against right-handed batters. Trust Yoshida to put the ball in play tonight, even in a seemingly difficult matchup.
