MLB Player Props Today

Cade Povich Over/Under 4.5 Strikeouts
Matt Waldron Over/Under 18.5 Outs Recorded
Vladimir Guerrero Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Cade Povich UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts (-126), FanDuel

Prior to being promoted to the MLB level this season, Cade Povich was dominating Triple-A with a 32.5% strikeout rate and a 3.20 FIP across 56.2 innings of work. That being said, he’s really struggled to generate swings and misses since joining the big league club.

Through 3 starts, Povich owns a 5.6% strikeout rate against left-handed batters and a 15.7% strikeout rate against right-handed batters. Part of his issues have been a result of not throwing enough strikes early in counts, but the larger issue appears to be an overused 4-Seamer that is generating only a 10.4% whiff rate across the platoon.

Since Steven Kwan returned to the Cleveland lineup on an everyday basis, the Guardians offense has only struck out in 19.0% of their plate appearances against left-handed pitching. It always induces a little bit of anxiety when placing strikeout props before we get umpire assignments, but there should be some margin for error at this number.

Matt Waldron UNDER 18.5 Outs Recorded (-160), FanDuel

Entering play, Matt Waldron has recorded 19+ outs in 4 of his last 5 starts. However, it’s worth noting that he’s been one of the luckiest pitchers in baseball during that stretch – allowing only a .198 BABIP while stranding 86.5% of runners to reach base against him. He’s also allowed only 1 home run to 125 batters faced during that span after allowing 6 home runs to his first 221 batters faced this season.

Waldron has used his knuckleball, a notoriously unpredictable offering, for approximately 40% of his pitches thrown since the beginning of June. It has generated an impressive 28.6% whiff rate this season, but he could run into some trouble against a very high-contact Washington lineup. San Diego’s arm barn is also rather rested in this spot, which means Waldron isn’t likely to be pushed beyond reason on Monday. The under makes sense.

Vladimir Guerrero UNDER 1.5 Total Bases (-125), DraftKings

Vladimir Guerrero has been good, but not spectacular in 2024, and he draws a tough matchup against Tanner Houck. Houck has been extremely tough on right-handed batters in 2024, with a 2.05 FIP, 1.01 WHIP, and 29.2% strikeout rate. Guerrero has been rather pedestrian in his home ballpark as far as total bases go this year, with only 14 games of 2+ total bases in 37 contests. Facing a tough right-hander who has allowed only 8 extra-base hits to right-handed batters all season isn’t a recipe for a strong performance. We will live with the results.
