MLB Player Props Today
- Dallas Keuchel u3.5 Strikeouts
- Trea Turner u0.5 Strikeouts
- Masataka Yoshida Less Than 0.5 Strikeouts
Dallas Keuchel u3.5 Strikeouts (-136), FanDuel
Dallas Keuchel was extremely effective in his return to MLB action last week, even if the box score doesn’t necessarily reflect it. Nevertheless, his success stemmed primarily from weak contact, not from a lack of contact. Keuchel faced 23 batters, but he generated an abysmal 5.4% swinging-strike rate against a Minnesota Twins offense that is middle-of-the-pack in terms of strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching. Keuchel will have to deal with a Philadelphia Phillies offense that ranks 16th in strikeout percentage against southpaws during the month of August. Called third strikes are always a concern with the Phillies, but this should be an easy under if they simply swing the bats.
Trea Turner u0.5 Strikeouts (-110), DraftKings
Trea Turner has struck out at an alarmingly-high rate in 2023, relative to his career numbers. However, he has still showcased good bat-to-ball skills against left-handed pitching, striking out only 19.6% of the time. There is also some evidence to suggest that Turner is finally starting to see the ball better at the plate, having struck out in only 12.9% of his plate appearances since August 3. There will likely be one or two stressful plate appearances in the late innings as part of this play, but Turner has earned himself the benefit of the doubt in recent weeks – trust him to get the job done here.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Masataka Yoshida Less than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks
We are running it back tonight with the founder of the less than 0.5 hitter strikeout club in these articles – Masataka Yoshida. Entering play on Friday, Yoshida ranks in the 97th percentile in strikeout rate among qualified hitters. He will face Tarik Skubal, who has struck out only two of the 14 left-handed batters he has faced to start 2023. Yoshida has struck out in only 14.5% of his plate appearances against southpaws this season, making this a worthwhile risk to begin the weekend.
