Happy Thursday! Weather systems are still wreaking havoc across the country as we near the weekend, but fortunately for bettors, three of today’s nine games will be played inside! The action will get underway at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx at 1:05 p.m. EST as part of a four-game afternoon offering. The other five contests have a scheduled first pitch of 7:05 p.m. EST or later.

Across the last few weeks, we are 58-38-2 (63.6%) in this article. Since May 1, we are 155-120-9 on non-Home Run props and 2-6 on Home Run recommendations. We are now 93-47-5 (67.4%) on pitcher prop recommendations for the season. There is plenty of opportunity once again on the player prop market today – below are three prop leans for August 24!

MLB Player Props Today

Brandon Belt o1.5 Total Bases (+140), FanDuel

Brandon Belt has been a near-automatic out against southpaws in 2023, but he has continued to mash right-handed pitching to the tune of an .868 OPS and a 141 wRC+. When he has managed to make contact against right-handed pitching, it has often resulted in significant damage – 35 of his 69 hits against right-handers this year have gone for extra-bases. Kyle Gibson has struggled to a 4.02 FIP, 1.55 WHIP, and allowed a .307 opponent batting average across the platoon this season. At significant plus-money, this is a worthwhile risk for bettors.

J.P. France u5.5 Strikeouts (-160), BetMGM

According to props.cash, J.P. France has only eclipsed this market number in five of his 18 starts in 2023. This afternoon, he draws a tough matchup against the Boston Red Sox, which have the 4th-lowest strikeout rate of any team in baseball against right-handed pitching during the month of August. Justin Verlander and Clarke Schmidt have both surprised with strong performances, but Jose Urquidy, Cristian Javier, Gerrit Cole, Jhony Brito, and Matt Manning have all gone under their pre-game strikeout market number since August 12. The under is the smart play here.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Masataka Yoshida Less Than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

Since August 17, Masataka Yoshida has struck out in 27.6% of his 29 plate appearances, which is significantly misaligned with his 12.7% strikeout rate for the season. Though late-season fatigue can partly explain his recent struggles, it is likely that Yoshida will experience positive regression in this metric sooner rather than later. This afternoon, Yoshida will face J.P. France, who owns a pedestrian 20.8% strikeout rate against left-handed batters in 2023. Following an off-day yesterday, Yoshida should be rested. He is more than capable of delivering for us in this spot.
