Kutter Crawford, not known for his efficiency, has a tough matchup on Wednesday against the surging Houston Astros. Since August 15, the Astros rank 8th in OPS and 10th in ISO against right-handed pitching. Houston is also 8th in BB% and has struck out at the lowest rate of any team in the league against right-handed pitching in that span. Crawford has eclipsed this market number only once in his last five outings. Do not expect him to improve upon that rate this afternoon.
Kyle Freeland u15.5 Outs Recorded (-145), BetMGM
In his last 12 turns through the rotation, Kyle Freeland has completed more than five innings only five times. Today, he will have to contend with the Atlanta Braves, which rank 3rd in OPS and 6th in ISO against left-handed pitching during the month of August. It would be shocking to see Freeland pitch into the sixth inning in this spot, against one of the best offenses in Major League Baseball. This market number would be more appropriately priced at over/under 14.5 outs recorded.

Entering play on Wednesday, Ronald Acuna Jr. owns an impressive 14.2% strikeout rate against southpaws this season. Today, he will face Kyle Freeland, who has struck out only 13.3% of the right-handed batters he has seen in 2023. Overall, Freeland ranks in the 4th percentile in strikeout percentage, 2nd percentile in whiff rate, and 5th percentile in fastball velocity among qualified pitchers this year. Acuna Jr. is a trustworthy option to make contact in this matchup.
