MLB Player Props Today

Patrick Corbin u4.5 strikeouts (-152), FanDuel

Patrick Corbin totaled six strikeouts in his most recent trip to the hill against the Kansas City Royals, but that was against a lineup that ranks 20th in strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching during the month of May. This afternoon, he has a much tougher matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which rank 13th in strikeout percentage against southpaws this month. According to props.cash, only one of the last six left-handed hurlers to face the Dodgers have eclipsed this market number. Having the strikeout-friendly Alex Tosi calling balls and strikes in this matchup is not ideal, but the under still has some value for those looking for a small wager to begin the day.

Hunter Brown u17.5 outs recorded (-110), BetMGM

Ahead of first pitch on Wednesday, Hunter Brown has eclipsed this market number in only five of his first 10 starts in 2023. Two of those starts have come in the last two weeks against the hapless Oakland Athletics, who can only technically be referred to as a Major League Baseball club. Though Brown has been able to post strong surface-level numbers so far this year, his 59.1% first-pitch strike rate remains far below what is desirable for a starting pitcher. In each of Brown’s last four outings, he has failed to reach 60.0% in this metric, meaning that he has been playing with fire – working behind in the count very often. Assuming that Brown continues this trend on Wednesday, he is highly unlikely to complete six innings against the Minnesota Twins – take the under on his outs recorded.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Masataka Yoshida less than 0.5 hitter strikeouts, PrizePicks

Are we running back the same Masataka Yoshida play again on Wednesday? Absolutely we are. Entering play this evening, Yoshida has struck out in only 10.3% of his plate appearances to begin the 2023 campaign. Tonight, he faces Luke Weaver, who owns an unimpressive 17.8% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters so far this season. In 2022, Weaver had a 19.8% strikeout rate against left-handed batters, proving that this is more than an early-season anomaly in the data. The Cincinnati Reds bullpen ranks in the bottom third of baseball in strikeout percentage as a unit as well, making it more probable than not that Yoshida puts the ball in play during the latter innings.
