What kind of performances can we expect on Wednesday from Gerrit Cole, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Freddie Freeman? Follow along as our MLB betting expert, Nick Galaida, breaks down three of his favorite MLB prop bets and DFS pick’em predictions for today – Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Happy Wednesday! We went 2-1 yesterday and will, today, once again look to take advantage of another rare day of the week in which there is no football scheduled. Major League Baseball has a pair of afternoon affairs on the slate for today, but 14 of the 16 scheduled contests have a first pitch scheduled for 6:10 pm ET or later, giving the betting community plenty of time to get involved in the action.

Across the last two months, we are 100-60-6 (63.3%) in this article. Since May 1, we are 195-141-12 on non-Home Run props and 2-6 on Home Run recommendations. We are now 118-60-5 (66.9%) on pitcher prop recommendations for the season. There is plenty of opportunity once again on the player prop market today – below are three prop leans for September 27!

MLB Player Props Today

Gerrit Cole u6.5 Strikeouts (-115), BetMGM

On Wednesday evening, Gerrit Cole has a hyper-proximity matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays – a team which he just saw six days ago. Cole has only one example of facing an intra-division opponent in a hyper-proximity situation this season; he had only four strikeouts across five innings of work against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 12. The Blue Jays have been better than the league average team, in terms of strikeouts, against right-handed pitching this month as well. Typically, hitters have the advantage in these situations, due to the familiarity with the pitcher who they just saw. The under is the smart lean here.

Ronald Acuna Jr. to Record a Stolen Base (+210), DraftKings

Entering play on Wednesday, Ronald Acuna Jr. leads all of baseball with 68 stolen bases on the season. However, he is in somewhat of a dry spell ahead of the first pitch today, having not swiped a bag in any of his last three games played. According to Baseball Savant, Yan Gomes, today’s projected catcher for the Chicago Cubs, ranks only 59th out of 81 backstops in pop time this year to second base. Jameson Taillon is also not very quick to the plate, which creates an opportunity ripe for a stolen base attempt in this matchup if Acuna Jr. is able to get on base. At significant plus-money odds, this is a worthwhile risk.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Freddie Freeman Less Than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

Tonight, Freddie Freeman will get to face Noah Davis, who has an abysmal 53.2% first-pitch strike rate so far in 2023. Davis’ inability to consistently get ahead in counts has hurt his ability to generate swings and misses, both inside and outside of the strike zone. In two outings since being called back up, Davis has only six strikeouts out of 28 batters faced. Freeman is a high-contact batter who has the benefit of playing at Coors Field in this spot. He is a good candidate to avoid a strikeout on Wednesday.
