MLB Player Props Today

Spencer Strider u18.5 outs recorded (-173), Caesars

Spencer Strider is off to a strong start to 2023, with a 2.96 ERA, 2.69 xERA, and a 2.18 FIP through his first nine turns in the rotation. However, his Cy Young candidacy is buoyed by his ability to generate swings and misses, not by his ability to work deep into ballgames. To begin the new campaign, Strider has gone under this market number seven times in nine trips to the mound. Pitching at home, the only game in which he recorded more than 18 outs was against the hapless Miami Marlins. In 2022, Strider went under this market number 18 times in 20 starts. Tonight, he has to contend with a Los Angeles Dodgers lineup that ranks 3rd in OPS, 4th in ISO, 9th in BB%, and 6th in K% against right-handed pitching during the month of May. It is unlikely that this evening’s matchup is going to be one of the rare instances in which Strider works into the 7th inning – even with the Atlanta Braves arm barn being slightly taxed entering play.

Jorge Soler u2.5 total bases (-145), DraftKings

Yes, Coors Field is a launching pad. Yes, Austin Gomber has an ERA that is 35 percent worse than the league-average pitcher entering play on Tuesday. Jorge Soler has an incredulous 1.638 OPS and a .406 batting average against southpaws to begin 2023, but these numbers have been accrued in a meager sample size of only 20 plate appearances. In 2022, Soler had a .203 batting average against left-handed pitching, with only seven extra-base hits in 69 plate appearances. It is not often that bettors get an opportunity to attack an under 2.5 on total bases for a player who is as flawed as Soler. Take advantage of the opportunity.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Masataka Yoshida less than 0.5 hitter strikeouts, PrizePicks

We ran this play yesterday successfully and we see no reason not to run it back again tonight. As we preach daily in this article, Masataka Yoshida has some of the best contact skills and maybe the most impressive plate discipline in the league, which has led to a 9.6% strikeout rate to begin 2023. Today, he gets a matchup against Griffin Canning. Canning has an unimpressive 14.3% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters this season, not to mention a .333 opponent batting average and a 5.01 FIP. Expect Yoshida to have a strong day at the dish and for him to make contact in each of his trips to the plate.
