MLB Player Props Today

Chas McCormick to Hit a Home Run
Cal Raleigh to Hit a Home Run
Spencer Torkelson to Hit a Home Run

Chas McCormick to Hit a Home Run (+540, FanDuel)

Chas McCormick has yet to leave the yard in 2024, but that could change tonight. Last season, McCormick hit 9 home runs in only 138 plate appearances (6.5%) against LHP. This evening, he gets to face Jordan Wicks, who ranks in the 11th percentile in barrel% allowed and 38th percentile in ground-ball rate heading into action.

Wicks’ inability to get many ground balls positions him particularly poorly tonight, given the weather conditions at Wrigley Field. Though the temperature is only going to be in the 60s, the wind blowing out at nearly 15 MPH should create some hitter-friendly conditions in the ballpark. According to WeatherEdge, 44 games matching the current conditions at Wrigley Field have been extremely favorable to offenses.

Cal Raleigh to Hit a Home Run (+320, FanDuel)

Cal Raleigh is off to a good start in 2024, with 5 home runs already on the back of his baseball card. Tonight, he gets another favorable matchup against Dane Dunning.

Through 4 starts this season, Dunning owns a 6.81 xERA and 6.18 FIP. He’s allowed 4 home runs in the 37 plate appearances against lefties. Overall, Dunning ranks in the 3rd percentile in barrel% allowed, 3rd percentile in average exit velocity allowed, and 6th percentile in Hard-Hit% allowed.

Spencer Torkelson to Hit a Home Run (+390, FanDuel)

Spencer Torkelson has gone without a home run in 104 consecutive plate appearances to begin 2024. For context, he hit 7 home runs in his final 111 plate appearances in 2023.

Under the hood, Torkelson still looks to be doing many of the right things. His swing decisions have been good, offering frequently at pitches in the heart of the zone but not very frequently at pitches on the edges of the zone or out of the zone altogether. He’s pulling the baseball and hitting more fly balls than at any other point in his career, making it all the more surprising that he hasn’t been able to get a ball over the fence this season.

Ryan Pepiot has plenty of swing-and-miss stuff, but he ranks in the 27th percentile in barrel% allowed and 12th percentile in ground-ball rate this season, meaning that he often gives up loud contact when he doesn’t get the ball by hitters. Torkelson could take advantage here.
