Happy Wednesday! There was plenty of day baseball around the league, but if bettors are late to the party today, there are still 4 evening games left on the slate, meaning plenty of betting opportunities still available.

As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.

Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Since the beginning of the 2023 season, we are +49.87u on regular season MLB player props in this article. And below, you can find my 3 picks for Wednesday, April 2nd!

Best MLB Player Props for Wednesday, April 2nd

Here are my top player prop bets for today:

Garrett Crochet OVER 3.5 Hits Allowed (-155, bet365)

Crochet is among the best starting pitchers in baseball, but this is still a very low number for him against a strong Baltimore offense. On Opening Day, Crochet allowed 5 hits to the Rangers. Baltimore had 8 hits against southpaw Sean Newcomb in only 4 innings a couple of days ago. The market is likely giving Crochet just a tad too much respect.

Zac Gallen UNDER 5.5 Strikeouts (+100, DraftKings)

In his first start of 2025, Gallen’s velocity was down nearly a full mph from where it sat in 2024. As a result, he didn’t get many swings and misses against the Cubs, finishing with only a 6% swinging-strike rate. Tonight, he gets a tough matchup against a Yankees’ offense that has been extremely disciplined in a limited sample size to begin the new campaign.

Entering play on Wednesday, New York’s offense has the lowest chase rate in baseball, and the 5th-highest contact% on swings at pitches out of the zone. That means that Gallen, if he wants to get strikeouts on Wednesday, is going to have to beat the Yankees in the strike zone – something that could prove difficult if his velocity is once again not where it was in 2024.

Michael Conforto OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-110, BetMGM)

Earlier this week, manager Dave Roberts told the media that Freddie Freeman is unlikely to play until Friday due to an ankle injury suffered when he slipped in his home shower. On Monday, with Freeman unavailable, Conforto was pushed up to the 4-hole in the lineup, hitting behind Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Teoscar Hernandez.

If Conforto is once again in the cleanup spot for the Dodgers, this is a play that has tremendous value. Bryce Elder struggled to a 5.74 FIP and 1.83 WHIP against LHB in 2024. Conforto should be well-positioned to drive-in a runner or two tonight in addition to this simply being a favorable matchup to reach base himself.
