Traditional MLB DFS formats aren’t the only way to profit from daily fantasy baseball. MLB PrizePicks is a great fantasy pick’em site where we can take today’s projections versus theirs and combine two or more baseball predictions for sizeable payouts.

In this space, we’ll explore a few PrizePicks plays for the upcoming MLB slate. This article isn’t the be-all, end-all of great plays or a recommendation for a full ticket; it’s simply a starting place for you to explore thinking about the game within the game. Maybe you want to scatter these plays across entries. Maybe there are only two or three you think are worth playing. Daily fantasy pick’em gives us the flexibility to make only the plays in which we think there is value rather than being forced to create a full lineup while competing against the best DFS players in the industry.

PrizePicks is daily fantasy baseball made simple, and our MLB PrizePicks picks tool makes the process even simpler.

MLB PrizePicks Predictions for Tuesday, August 13th

Eduardo Rodriguez MORE Than 6.5 Strikeouts (DEMON)

The only question for Eduardo Rodriguez is gonna be volume. He has an adequate 22.4% K rate since the start of the 2023 season but a 27.8% called + swinging strike rate over that stretch. He can certainly get a K-per-inning, at the least. The problem is that he’s coming back from injury and is only projected for 80 pitches. That said, his 65 pitches got him 5.2 IP in his season debut, so it isn’t crazy that he can complete 6 IP. And that might be all we need to hear, as the Rockies projected lineup has a 26.7% K rate against lefties. We have Rodriguez projected for 6 Ks, so this is a tight DEMON play but one that could yield a decent reward for the risk.

Kutter Crawford MORE Than 5.5 Strikeouts (DEMON)

Kutter Crawford to strike out 6 Rangers is probably the better play, despite lacking the sex appeal of picking a lefty against the Rockies. Crawford has been bad recently, so his volume has suffered, but he’s projected for 90 pitches and has a 23% K rate on the season. These Rangers are good and don’t strike out much, but they’re not great. We just need Crawford to prevent the runs and get the volume. Because when he does prevent runs, he’s good for 6-7 IP. We have Crawford projected for exactly 5.5 Ks, so this is a toss-up in terms of win rate, but the DEMON juice should get us some exposure.

Gavin Stone MORE Than 15.5 Outs (DEMON)

The Brewers are a very average offense, collectively, that lives on power and speed. Gavin Stone allows just a 5.7% barrel rate for just a .150 ISO, so the power should be limited. Stone’s 6.5% BB rate is strong, so we’re really just worried about him getting BABIP’d around, where his 38.9% hard-hit rate comes in handy for us. We have him projected for 85 pitches, but we’ve seen him push 94-100 when he’s rolling. Projected by us for 15.8 outs with a wide range of outcomes, the DEMON boost makes him a play. We could get 12 outs, or we could get 21 out of him on any given night.

Taijuan Walker MORE Than 1.5 Walks Allowed (DEMON)

Taijuan Walker gets a great matchup but walks follow the pitcher, and Walker has allowed 3.57 BB/9. The Marlins are bad and chase a lot, so they don’t walk much, but Walker’s baked-in lack of command without strikeout stuff should get us a couple of walks to get there on this play. We have Walker projected for 1.6 walks, and that’s only low because of the matchup. Remember — again — that Walker brings a lot of walks to the table, generally walking 1-2 right off the bus, so this is a solid bargain for us.

All projections referenced are accurate at the time of writing but subject to change.

PrizePicks is over-projecting a lot of pitchers for outs and fantasy points, so there is our edge to attack the standard projections. We’ll just need to sprinkle in these DEMONs for larger payouts. They are all really tight plays, so I’d recommend a low volume.
