MLB Parlay Piece for June 2, 2023

Shohei Ohtani u7.5 strikeouts (-122)

Shohei Ohtani is certifiably one of the most talented pitchers in the American League, but this is still a difficult matchup for him tonight against a Houston Astros team that ranks 8th in strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching since May 15. According to props.cash, the Astros have not struck out eight times against a right-handed starting pitcher since April 8. That stretch of time includes a matchup against Ohtani on May 9, in which Ohtani had exactly seven strikeouts. Simply, this market number is too high – the under is worth including here.

Framber Valdez 6+ strikeouts (-235)

When Framber Valdez faced the Los Angeles Angels in May, he collected a dozen strikeouts across eight innings of masterful work. Entering play on Friday, Valdez has recorded at least a half-dozen strikeouts in six of his last eight trips to the mound, making this alt-number an attractive parlay piece for this evening. The Angels have not seen a left-handed starting pitcher since facing Jesus Luzardo on May 26, meaning that there could be an added element of unfamiliarity tonight that will work in Valdez’s favor.

Kyle Tucker 3+ total bases (+250)

Three total bases in one game is never an easy feat, but Kyle Tucker has proven himself capable of hitting this number at a fairly decent clip – 21.0% of the time in home games this year, according to props.cash. Though Tucker has struggled against right-handed pitching to begin 2023, there are reasons to believe that he is finally turning the corner. Since May 17, Tucker owns a .319 batting average and a .489 slugging percentage. In that stretch, he has struck out in only 11.5% of his plate appearances, indicating that he is seeing the ball extremely well. Now is the time to invest in Tucker for bettors.
