Yesterday, we fell one total base short of cashing another long shot parlay for the RotoGrinders community. Tonight, we have another great opportunity in front of us with a marquee matchup between the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. EST in Hollywood.

We have cashed 11 tickets since debuting this article and only narrowly missed another 29 winners. Playing long shot parlays each day, there will be big winners, but there will always be days in which it was more profitable to play each leg as an individual wager. As we highlight each day in this piece, these plays have been most profitable played individually, even though we have been profitable with the parlay odds as well.

In this article, we never post a ticket with shorter than +700 odds, meaning that we only need to hit once each week to be profitable. Overall, these plays are 114-88-2 (56.6%) if played as straight wagers, many of which have been significant alt-lines, even as individual tickets.

MLB Parlay Piece for August 31, 2023

Atlanta Braves Total Runs o4.5 (-120)

The Atlanta Braves are coming off of a series in the altitude at Coors Field, which is usually a negative for the offense. However, this lineup has nine legitimate threats on a nightly basis and gets to face Lance Lynn this evening, who is due for massive regression sooner rather than later. Lynn has outperformed his peripherals by two runs since being acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers. A matchup against the red-hot Braves might be the end of his good fortune.

Matt Olson 3+ Total Bases (+165)

This season, Lance Lynn has struggled to a 6.08 FIP, 1.75 WHIP and allowed a .313 opponent batting average to left-handed hitters. Struggles across the platoon have been a theme throughout his career – evident by his 4.61 FIP and 1.50 WHIP against left-handed hitters during his professional career. Matt Olson has obliterated right-handed pitching in 2023 to the tune of a 1.000 OPS and a 163 wRC+. It would not be surprising to see him leave the yard on Thursday night in Hollywood.

Freddie Freeman 3+ Total Bases (+200)

Spencer Strider misses a lot of bats, but he also gives up a lot of barrels, ranking in the 28th percentile this season among qualified pitchers. Freddie Freeman ranks in the 78th percentile in barrel rate among qualified hitters and has hit Strider’s arsenal well in 2023. Entering play, Freeman has a .410 xwOBA against right-handed breaking balls and a .421 xwOBA against right-handed fastballs. This is not as scary of a matchup for Freeman as it may seem on the surface. This is a worthwhile inclusion in today’s long shot parlay.
