MLB Parlay Piece for June 1, 2023
- Hunter Greene u6.5 strikeouts
- Spencer Steer 2+ total bases
- Alex Verdugo 3+ total bases
Hunter Greene u6.5 strikeouts (-156)
Hunter Greene is coming off of back-to-back starts with at least 10 strikeouts, making this line, at first, somewhat perplexing. However, Jim Wolf is calling balls and strikes this evening and the Boston Red Sox have no shortage of high-contact hitters in their lineup on a nightly basis. Greene has been doing a better job of late getting ahead in the count, but we are still less than a month removed from a two-start span in which he threw only 40.8% first-pitch strikes. Command is still an issue for the young right-hander. Against a patient Boston lineup, it could make life particularly problematic. Take the under here.
Spencer Steer 2+ total bases (-110)
Facing left-handed pitching this season, Spencer Steer has been fantastic – posting a .291 batting average, .882 OPS, and a 129 wRC+. Tonight, he will face southpaw Chris Sale for the Boston Red Sox, playing in the hitter-friendly Fenway Park. Across the last three seasons, Fenway Park has been the third most-friendly park factor for right-handed batters in night games of any venue in Major League Baseball. Expect Steer to put together at least one quality at-bat this evening, which will give him an opportunity to get the job done here.
Alex Verdugo 3+ total bases (+200)
Facing right-handed fastballs this season, Alex Verdugo has a 7.8% whiff rate and a 51.8% HardHit%. Said another way, Verdugo rarely misses right-handed fastballs and he often does a lot of damage with his contact. Facing right-handed pitching this season, Verdugo owns a .307 batting average, .877 OPS, and a 137 wRC+. Even against Hunter Greene, Verdugo is a good bet to hit the baseball hard, which will allow him to rack up total bases with a fair amount of good fortune on balls in play.
