NBA Best Bets Today – Wednesday, December 13
- Los Angeles Lakers at San Antonio Spurs (+3)
- New York Knicks (-5.5) at Utah Jazz
- Brooklyn Nets (+4.5) at Phoenix Suns
Los Angeles Lakers at San Antonio Spurs (+3)
The last time the Spurs won a basketball game, Barack Obama was the president of the United States…or at least it feels that way. In actuality, San Antonio last won a game on November 2 against the Suns. Since that point, they have lost 17 consecutive contests and have been outscored by 13.3 points per 100 possessions. Tonight, they are only three-point underdogs against the Lakers, which won the NBA In-Season Tournament over the weekend and played a high-intensity affair against the Mavericks yesterday. There is nothing in the data to suggest that this game should go San Antonio’s way, but this a tough spot in the schedule for LeBron James and company, which gives the Spurs their best chance of winning a game in a long time. Why not tonight?
New York Knicks (-5.5) at Utah Jazz
The Jazz are undeniably one of the least talented rosters in the entire league, which is only further evident by their performance across the last month – ranking 27th in Net Rating and winning only four of their last 13 games. Utah has been better at home during that run, but they still rank only 19th in Net Rating in front of their home fans, and New York has been more than capable on the road this season with a .500 record in such games. The Knicks are the superior team in this matchup on both ends of the floor, which should manifest itself on Wednesday evening.
Brooklyn Nets (+4.5) at Phoenix Suns
The Suns are still yet to feature their new-look big three for any extended minutes this season, which is likely to contribute to chemistry issues on the floor. Last night, Kevin Durant did not play due to an ankle injury, which makes tonight a brand new situation for Phoenix – assuming that Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal each end up on the floor. Brooklyn has quietly been playing good basketball of late, ranking 5th-best in the NBA in Net Rating across the last month. The road underdogs have value in this spot.
