NBA Betting Picks for Today: Nets at Wizards

To the surprise of many, this game actually has some playoff implications. If you asked people the beginning of the season, most would have figured that the Nets would be on their way to the playoffs, and that the Wizards would be out of contention by this time. Now, the Wizards currently sit at 9th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 20-36 and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. Even though chances the Wizards taking the Nets’ playoff spot are slim, it remains a possible scenario.

Despite Bradley Beal putting up massive numbers, the Wizards enter Wednesday night on a three-game losing streak. That doesn’t mean they aren’t playing well. The losses are a bit misleading as one of those games was a three-point loss on the second end of a back-to-back against the Milwaukee Bucks. It was all their third game in four days.

Now, the Wizards are as healthy as they’ve been nearly all season, with only Davis Bertans as questionable. The Wizards currently rank 4th in pace of play and are dead last in defensive efficiency. However over the last 10 games, the Wizards actually rank 7th in defensive efficiency. While we have always viewed the Wizards as a perfect matchup for opposing offenses, they no longer have Isaiah Thomas holding back their defense. For most of the season, the Wizards were missing a ton of players to injuries and were consistently playing shorthanded. That’s not the case tonight.

A lot of people are likely to target this game for DFS purposes, but outside of Bradley Beal and Caris LeVert, I’m not there’s as much value as people assume.

Aside from Kyrie Irving, the Nets are fully healthy as well. The Nets currently sit at 7th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 26-30 and are 6-4 in their last 10 games. On the season, the Nets rank 22nd in offensive efficiency, 7th in defensive efficiency and 10th in pace. Since Caris LeVert has entered the starting lineup, they have been a bit of a different team ranking 6th in offensive efficiency, 2nd in defensive efficiency and 27th in pace. Overall, this Nets team has been drastically different depending on what PGs they have available. The Nets have adjusted their style of play as they switch between Irving, Dinwiddie, and LeVert running the point. Right now with LeVert in the lineup they are playing at a drastically different pace than they have the rest of the season.

NBA Betting Picks: The Under 233.5

The Wizards have been a team that I love to bet the Over on, but I’m not sure that’s wise tonight Sure, both teams are seen as having up-tempo offenses and vulnerable defense, but that’s no longer the case. Their personnel has changed as well as their style of play. I am by no means saying that either of these teams are defensive juggernauts or slow, but I still think the total is a bit high all things considered. For example, this game has the same total as the Rockets-Grizzlies game, which features the second and fifth ranked teams in terms of offense pace. The Rockets and Grizzlies also are much more efficient.

That said, th market is a bit behind when it comes to the Wizards and Nets. Let’s take the under and hope they don’t revert back to the style of play they have been over the previous few months.
