NBA Finals Odds, Props, Picks and Promos for Game 4

After dropping the first two games of the NBA Finals and losing Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic in the process, Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat fired back in Game 3. With the odds stacked against them — 10.5 points to be exact — the Heat kept their championship hopes alive by upsetting the Los Angeles Lakers. Another outright victory might be too much to ask, but can the Heat cover a shortened Game 4 spread Tuesday night?

Sportsbooks adjusted the odds following the Heat’s Game 3 performance. Now, the Lakers are 7.5-point favorites in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Is that an overreaction? If you were willing to double digits on the Lakers, then you probably should like tonight’s spread as well.

Sure, oddsmakers have shortened the spread for Game 4, in part, due to the presumptive return of Miami’s big man. Adebayo status has been upgraded to questionable for tonight; however, even with Adebayo starting, the Lakers won the first two games of the series by 18 and 10 points, respectively.

As good as Adebayo is, he’s no match for Anthony Davis, especially if Adebayo’s shoulder injury hinders his defensive game. Remember, Davis dropped 34 points and grabbed nine boards to open the series, then followed it up with a 32-point, 14-rebound performance. His worst showing came in Game 3, as he recorded only 15 points and five rebounds.

As for the Heat, Jimmy Butler was the best player in the court in Game 3 — in fact, his triple-double performance was one of the greatest performances in NBA Finals history. Seriously.

Butler willed his team to victory, scoring 40 points in 45 minutes (without shooting a 3-pointer!) while adding 11 rebounds and 13 assists. .

But both Butler’s and Davis’ performances were outliers.

If Butler comes just halfway back down to earth and if Anthony Davis returns to form, the Lakers ought to cover the spread in Game 4.

Finals MVP Odds and Game 4 Props

Though I like Davis to get back on track Tuesday night, we bet on LeBron to win the Finals MVP as the odds-on-favorite last week. James has since lengthened is lead, according to Finals MVP odds at online sportsbooks.

James is a -250 favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook while his teammate, Davis, is +200. Butler is the biggest mover, as his odds shortened from +2000 to +1000 to win the award following his historical performance.

If you want action on Butler, trust me when I tell you it’s too late. You’re better off betting on the Heat +900 to win the series at FanDuel Sportsbook. Another strategy for Heat exposure would be to just take the points and roll it over for the rest of the Finals.

Davis’ lackluster performance might have taken him out of the race with James, but if you’re searching for a hedge opportunity, you can bet on Davis +300 at FanDuel and FOX Bet.

Game 4 Props — Davis Over 29.5 Points

I still think everything sets up well for James, so I’m not backing Davis at these odds, but I’m not totally opposed to hedging, either. The way I’ll be doing it, however, is by looking at player props. In doing so, we quickly find Davis Over/Under 29.5 points in Game 4, which I’m happy to bet.

If Davis is to win Finals MVP, he almost certainly has to score more than 29 points in Game 4. By betting the Over we not only hedge our earlier Finals MVP bet, but we can actually win both. Even if Davis scores more than 30 points, James will likely remain in the driver’s seat to win the coveted award.

Game 4 Props —LBJ Triple Double +215

And since we’re talking about him, we might as well take a look at a player prop for the King.

James has been on the cusp of recording a triple-double in each of the first three games. In Game 1, he fell one assist shy; Game 2, he was a rebound and an assist away; Game 3, he was two assists short.

I’m betting on LeBron to finally get there in Game 4.

James and Davis to Combine for 58+ Points +110 at DraftKings

Boosted from -110

James and Davis combined for 59 and 65 points in Games 1 and 2, respectively. The duo only reached 40 points in Game 3.

Davis 30+ and Butler 25+ points +300 at FOX Bet

Boosted from +260

We’re essentially parlaying the Over on Davis’ and Butler’s player props. As we’ve already stated, we like Davis Over 29.5. What do you think of Butler? This might be another way to hedge James MVP tickets. Max bet is $50.
