NBA Player Props Today – Tuesday, October 22, 2024

Jayson Tatum UNDER 5.5 Assists (-145, DraftKings)

Jayson Tatum has never averaged more than 4.9 assists per game during his career, making this a surprising line on opening night. The market could be reacting to Tatum having 6+ assists in each of his final 2 preseason contests, but this is still likely priced a full number too high, facing a New York defense that allowed the 5th-fewest assists per game to opposing forwards last season.

LeBron James OVER 6.5 Rebounds (-110, FanDuel)

LeBron James averaged 7.3 rebounds per game last season, making it the 9th season in a row that he hit that threshold. Though there is always the possibility that Father Time will eventually catch up to the soon-to-be 40 year old, there simply isn’t much evidence to suggest that James is anywhere near falling off of the proverbial cliff. James was arguably the best player on the floor this summer in the Olympics for Team USA, and his high basketball IQ should allow him to continue to age gracefully, even as his physical dominance diminishes. This is a good price for James on opening night against a Minnesota defense that was around league average keeping forwards off of the glass last year.

Anthony Davis UNDER 0.5 Three-Pointers Made (+140, DraftKings)

Anthony Davis has averaged fewer than 1 made 3-pointer in 11 of his first 12 NBA seasons. Last year, there was a lot of preseason talk about Davis shooting more from the perimeter, but none of that talk ever truly manifested. New head coach J.J. Redick is an analytics savant, so there might be a little bit more validity to this year’s preseason talk of Davis shooting more 3-pointers, but bettors should wait to believe it until they see it in action. Even if Davis commits to shooting more from long range this year, he’s only been successful on 29.7% of his attempts in his career from 3-point territory, so multiple attempts don’t necessarily mean that he will make one of them. At significant plus odds, this is a worthwhile risk.
