NBA Player Props Today – Tuesday, October 24

Davis Over/Under 0.5 Three-Pointers Made

Earlier this month, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham half-jokingly commented that he wants to see Anthony Davis take six three-pointers per game this season. Ham ended the quote by saying, “I just want him (Davis) to be aggressive at all three levels,” which is coach-speak for “he has the green light to shoot three-pointers.”

During the preseason Davis attempted multiple three-pointers in each of the five games in which he played, despite the fact that he never played more than 23 minutes. He played as few as 13 minutes against the Warriors on October 7, but still managed to knock-down at least one shot from beyond-the-arc each time he took the court during the preseason. At a minimum, we should expect Davis to take four three-pointers on opening night against the Nuggets. At roughly even money, it’s a worthwhile risk to trust Davis to hit at least one triple to begin the regular season.

Thompson Over/Under 3.5 Three-Pointers Made

This is simply an auto-bet until Klay Thompson retires, joins another team, or proves to us that he is no longer capable of hitting the over at this market number. Last season, Thompson averaged 4.9 made three-pointers-made per game at home, shooting 42.4% from beyond-the-arc. The year prior, Thompson averaged 3.9 three-pointers-made on 39.5% shooting from downtown at home. The Suns are one of the best overall teams in the NBA heading into the new campaign, but they are unlikely to be elite defensively, especially out of the gate. The volume should be there for Thompson on Tuesday, making this worth a stab.

NBA PrizePicks Prediction: Davis More/Less Than 23.5 Points

Anthony Davis averaged 25.9 points per game last season and 23.2 points per game the year before with the Lakers. His splits were actually much better on the road last season, where he averaged 28.5 points per game on 57.1% shooting from the field. Assuming his preseason comments about being aggressive at all three levels are legitimate, Davis could threaten to average 30.0 points per game this upcoming season. At worst, he should be extremely competitive at this market number late into the fourth quarter if the contest is competitive. It only helps matters that the Nuggets allowed the third-highest opponent field goal percentage in the restricted last year, which is where Davis attempted the plurality of his shots.
