NBA Preseason Primer: Monday, October 8th
Hello Grinders. Before we break down the slate, be sure to leverage the projections in LineupHQ, discussions in the RotoGrinders Discord chat and the Court Report live blog each weekday by SBK. The way I would approach NBA preseason is to use this article as a primer for the day and then rely on the Court Report if you can for the latest news right before tipoff. If you’re interested in learning more about what’s available or want to sign up, you can find information here.
Because this slate is so massive, I’m going to approach this slightly differently. I’m going to lay out what we know so far, and what that information means to me. As I’m writing this on Sunday night, we still don’t have a ton of info. I fully expect that to get flushed out as Monday rolls along. I highly encourage you to catch SBK’s Court Report if possible to help summarize the news. I’ll do my best to keep things updated.
Feel free to give me a follow on Twitter. Let’s dive in!
Brooklyn Nets vs Detroit Pistons
Brooklyn Nets
What We Know:
• Shabazz Napier is out. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson hasn’t practiced in full yet and is out. Kenneth Faried practiced in full on Sunday and will play.
What This News Means To Me:
• We don’t have a lot of info to work off of but there are some interesting pieces here. This is just the second of four preseason games for the Nets so I expect the team to continue using this game to evaluate their new talent and roles. D’Angelo Russell and Caris LeVert are my main targets on the Nets given their high usage, but for GPPs only because I don’t know their minutes yet. Jarrett Allen and Allen Crabbe fall a tier below them in my eyes. Spencer Dinwiddie had 13 points and 6 assists in 19 minutes off the bench so he’s somewhat interesting as a punt, but the rookie Rodions Kurucs is a wildcard. He played 12 minutes in the opener but had a 13/4/2 line with 4 steals. There’s a tweet here saying he has a chance to make the rotation. I have no idea how many minutes he’ll get today or whether he’ll even play so I would not go heavy on him, but if you’re making a ton of lineups it may not be a bad idea to sprinkle him onto one just in case he gets an extended look here.
