NFL DFS Showdown Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Super Bowl 58
What is your favorite game-script build and why?
Notorious: I don’t really have a favorite game script for this game. Even if one team is able to build a lead, I don’t expect onslaught builds to be what is needed to win tournaments. Both of these offenses are concentrated, and I expect the superstars on both teams to play well. This doesn’t help much, but I am expecting a competitive game where balanced builds win out in DFS.
headChopper: There are a lot of different directions this game could go, so I’ll have several different builds with different game scripts. The one I THINK will be most likely is KC having success in the intermediate passing game, finding spots in the San Francisco zone and exploiting them, while San Francisco has success in the running game and with short passes to Deebo Samuel and George Kittle trying to rack up yards after the catch. This leads to efficient offense from both teams but not a shootout. The clock is ticking away on long drives.
squirrelpatrol: The one surprising statistic that jumps out at me with 49ers games this year is that San Francisco allows the 4th-most receptions per game but the fewest yards per reception in the NFL this season. I expect San Francisco to go with a steady dose of Christian McCaffrey and take the lead and the Chiefs to pass the ball and rack up receptions trying to come back.
ebeimfohr: Many have been wrong doubting the Chiefs, but I am sticking to my belief about the strength of this 49ers roster as a whole against a Chiefs squad with some weaknesses. I don’t think you want to line up and play man-to-man and bring pressure against this weaponry of the Niners (especially with their YAC ability) and with Shanahan calling the shots. So I am building for the Niners being able to put up a bunch of points and force the Chiefs to the air while primarily focusing on slowing down Travis Kelce.
MrTuttle05: It’s not my “favorite” game script build, but I think the game script build with the highest leverage is a low-scoring affair where D/STs and kickers are fantasy relevant. I think the majority of lineups will not only favor a higher-scoring affair but naturally avoid the price range where D/STs and kickers sit on both sites, with a more “stars and scrubs” approach being common. I think the best way to get leverage on the field- especially on DraftKings- is to cut out anyone in the player pool priced below the $2,000 (Noah Gray, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Richie James, etc.) and hope the optimal build is more balanced.
Stevietpfl: I think both defenses are going to get after the quarterback. I feel like the lack of experience will hurt Brock Purdy and that the Chiefs play with a lead in this game. I think both teams keep the gas pedal down regardless, which means I don’t have a favorite game script. I think this is a competitive game, and lineup construction is king.
eys819: I like the Chiefs to play with a lead and potentially a big lead. That doesn’t necessarily mean I am shying away from the passing game, as the Chiefs have shown over the past several seasons they are comfortable throwing late in the game with a lead. Christian McCaffrey is game script proof, and I don’t feel the need to fade him in my builds, although I likely end up underweight on him at CPT/MVP. I will have some contrarian Chiefs onslaught builds as well (5-1 on DK, 4-1 on FD).
Bobby Gomes: My favorite game script is a nearly balanced build, as the game total sits at 47.5 and the 49ers are slight favorites (-2). It is setting up like a moderately close, high-scoring affair despite both defenses being stout. I will be overweight on both Rashee Rice and Christian McCaffrey, as my teams will be balanced builds. If I use Patrick Mahomes or Brock Purdy at CPT, I’ll be sure to have 2 of their pass catchers in flex spots.
