NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings Expert Survey for Thursday, October 24

Who is your favorite skater to spend up for in cash games?

TastefulTides: Auston Matthews
boggslite: Auston Matthews
Joda: Nathan MacKinnon

What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

TastefulTides: Single-entry and smaller-field GPPs are my preferred tournament format. There are quite a few stacks I could see winning this slate. Correlation will be more important on this slate than most other 9-game slates. I say this because of the elite stacks in plus matchups. The Avalanche are projected to be the best, but I really want to see what the Devils’ top players will be projected for ownership. If it looks like they are getting squeezed out by the Avalanche, Maple Leafs, or Kings, I will look to get some pieces of the Devils’ top 6.

boggslite: Large-field tournaments – There are plenty of opportunities to get different with 9 games to choose from, and I think Toronto, Colorado, and L.A. will soak up plenty of ownership. Guys like Artemi Panarin, Nikita Kucherov, David Pastrnak, and Kyle Connor make interesting pivots in tournaments where their ownership won’t be as high as we would expect in better matchups.

Joda: Large-field GPPs are my preferred format to play on this slate. There are two clear spends in Nathan MacKinnon and Auston Matthews and plenty of value, particularly with the LA Kings, to make it work. While this may be the optimal route, I believe ownership will condense there. The Devils’ top 6 are an interesting pivot against a bad Red Wings team that was caved in by the Islanders on Tuesday. We could also see a back-and-forth affair between the Avalanche and Utah, so I like building a game stack there for tournaments.

Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
