NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings Expert Survey for Tuesday, March 3

Who is your favorite skater to spend up for in cash games?

Moneyball16: Nathan MacKinnon
boggslite: Connor McDavid
Joda: Adam Fantilli

What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

Moneyball16: Large-field tournaments – There are a couple situations that could cause a lot of value defensemen. With Washington, John Carlson is out again, and on top of that, Dylan McIlrath is playing. This should push minutes up for all of the other Washington defensemen. Carlson normally plays a ton of minutes, so those minutes need to be filled. McIlrath hasn’t averaged more than 12 minutes per game in over 4 years despite playing defense (where that number is very low, even compared to other 6th defensemen). This season, he has played just 9:11 per game. And then with Columbus, we could see Zach Werenski out again, and if that happens, there are 26+ minutes to be filled in a great matchup. Minutes are your life when it comes to looking at value defensemen, and tonight, there are two places to look.

boggslite: Large-field tournaments – There isn’t a ton of great value despite having 12 games to choose from, which will make it more difficult to load up on expensive stacks. This should naturally keep the ownership on EDM1 and COL1 in check, which is why I will look to build around them. Edmonton and Colorado don’t have the best matchups on paper, but they do have plenty of power-play potential to reach their ceilings, making Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon solid overall targets for me.

Joda: Large-field tournaments are my preferred format tonight. We have a 12-game slate, and with the expensive superstars not in their usual smash spots, I find myself leaning into more balanced builds. Some of my favorite targets are on Columbus, given their price tags and potential cheap defensemen should Zach Werenski not lace up the skates again tonight. Winnipeg’s top line could find success against Chicago, who traded away their puck-eating defenseman, Connor Murphy. The top line of Dallas could also be overlooked since they played last night and scoring was relatively spread out.

Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
