NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Tuesday, April 2nd

Slate Overview

You know what the best thing about Daily Fantasy Hockey is? The fact that it’s DAILY. Because yesterday was a disaster, and unlike something like PGA or NFL where you have to wait at least several days, we have the opportunity to get after it again. Unfortunately, the slate that we get to rebound with is pretty gross. As I mentioned on the live show, the contests and the games aren’t the most appealing we’ve ever had. But if everyone feels that way, then it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

There is a quartet of teams that have the highest implied team totals: Islanders, Devils, Panthers, and Flames. None of these instill massive amounts of confidence, although you’ll soon see who I’m the highest on overall. After that, the Wild sort of sit in a Tier of their own, although their ownership could be as high as the others due to the concentrated nature of their scoring.

I know you (and I) don’t really want to, but let’s break it down.

Top Skaters

Jack Hughes
DraftKings $8,500

The Devils seem to have found a combination that works for them with their top two lines. They’ve loaded up their top line with some of their top forwards in Timo Meier, Nico Hischier, and Jesper Bratt. That leaves Jack Hughes to the second line, specifically the wing, where he can be an alpha there and create for his linemates. This seems to be working for everyone, Hughes included. In his last 6 games, he has 4 multi-point showings. During that span, he’s also averaging just a shade under 5 shots per game.

Tonight, he’ll face the Penguins, fresh off an impressive victory against the Rangers. The operative word there is fresh because they will be on the second of a back-to-back. In net for the Penguins, it will either be Nedeljkovic starting back-to-back nights or Jarry, who is coming off an illness and has also been terrible lately. Both of those seem like decent choices, and I expect Hughes and company to light the lamp throughout the night.
