Want to hit the nuts and take down 1st place in these massive contests posted by FanDuel and DraftKings? Who better to walk you through their favorite NFL DFS picks than SquirrelPatrol! Undoubtedly one of the best DFS players in the game today, SquirrelPatrol has accumulated 100+ Live Final seats, took 2nd place in the 2023 DraftKings Fantasy Baseball World Championship for a $600,000 prize, and most recently, took down the NFL Milly Maker in Week 2 of last season.
We have a short turnaround between the first and second NFL games, with the Packers and Eagles traveling to Brazil for an NFC showdown. The Eagles are favored by 2 points on the neutral field of Corinthians Arena in Sao Paolo, and the total is set at 49.5 points. Both of these teams made the NFC playoffs last season and are hoping to do so again this year, with the ScoresandOdds Futures market showing the Eagles with the 2nd best odds to win the NFC at +525 and the Packers with the 4th best odds at +700.
The biggest changes for both of these offenses took place at the RB position. The Eagles made a major move in their backfield, signing Saquon Barkley in free agency and allowing D’Andre Swift to depart for Chicago. The Packers saw similar turnover at the RB position, with the team signing Josh Jacobs away from the Raiders while seeing Aaron Jones depart for the division rival Vikings. There are no major injury situations for this game, with the status of Green Bay backup RBs Emanuel Wilson and Marshawn Lloyd the biggest question marks, but be sure to follow the RotoGrinders’ NFL starting lineups page for updated depth chart information as injury news and inactives hit in case there are any surprises.
Let’s sort through the slate and figure out what to do with our DFS lineups.
Packers vs. Eagles Showdown DFS Lineup Advice
Primetime Game History
The Eagles saw their season end in disappointing fashion last year, losing five of their last six regular season games (with some bad losses to the likes of Arizona and the Giants) before getting dumped in the wild card round of the playoffs against Tampa Bay. ResultsDB shows that Jalen Hurts was unsurprisingly the most popular CPT choice for the DraftKings large field contests, with greater than 20% ownership at the top spot, but the contest was won by a lineup with Baker Mayfield at CPT at 7% ownership. Hurts appeared as a FLEX option, but the low-owned and low-priced David Moore was a differentiator in the top lineup, with 66 yards and a TD at just $800.
The Eagles previous primetime game before their playoff loss was an interesting one, as they beat the Giants 33-25 on Christmas Day. Hurts was again a popular CPT choice at over 33%, but he again appeared in the FLEX position in the winning lineup (along with his new teammate Saquon Barkley), while kicker Jake Elliott was the winning CPT at just 1% owned.
The Packers’ season also ended with a loss in the playoffs. For them, it was to San Francisco in the Divisional Round. The Packers surprised throughout the game, taking a lead late into the 4th quarter, but they ultimately lost on the road 24-21. As 10.5-point underdogs, the Packers saw CPT ownership in the large field DraftKings contests dominated by 49ers, with Christian McCaffrey leading the way at 28%. No Packer saw more than 8% ownership at the CPT spot, while McCaffrey, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Brock Purdy all saw 8% or more ownership in the CPT position. McCaffrey was the CPT for the winning lineup, with 128 total yards and 2 TDs, and as was the case in the Super Bowl as well, Jauan Jennings was a differentiator in the FLEX, with 11 DK points at $3,000 and 7% FLEX ownership.
As we can see looking at past lineups, we don’t want to avoid chalk entirely, but we want to use some sensible lineup construction and find at least one lower owned but still viable option.
