It’s come down to this. The NBA Play-In Tournament will conclude on Friday night, paving the way for the real playoffs to start on Saturday. The Heat will take on the Bulls for the second straight year in this competition, while the nightcap will pit the Kings against the Pelicans in NOLA.

Injuries have already played an unfortunate role, as Zion Williamson and Jimmy Butler will both be sidelined for tonight’s crucial matchups. Regardless, there’s still money to be made over at PrizePicks ahead of Friday’s 2-game slate.

NBA PrizePicks Predictions Today

Jonas Valanciunas More/Less Than 23.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

Jonas Valanciunas has been steadily productive for years, and he was one of the few players in the league this season to play (and start) all 82 of his team’s games. He’ll be in the starting lineup yet again tonight when the Pels host the Kings, yet he’s really just a symbolic starter these days.

JoVal’s average of 23.5 minutes per game this season was his lowest since 2018-19. Things bottomed out for him in the first Play-In game, as he logged just 7 minutes in the team’s loss to the Lakers. Willie Green clearly preferred Larry Nance in that matchup, and it’s worth wondering how long Valanciunas’ leash will be tonight against Sacramento.

Valanciunas did play 33 minutes when the Pelicans faced the Kings a couple of weeks ago, but Nance was out for that game. Could he have a bigger role tonight with Zion out? It’s possible, and I certainly would take the over on 7 minutes for him tonight. We have him projected to play 22, but Green can always go small with Nance at the 5 and Trey Murphy picking up some extra minutes in Williamson’s spot at the 4.

Because of the uncertain minutes, it’s far easier to see the path for Valanciunas to finish with less than 23.5 combined points, rebounds, and assists in this game.

CJ McCollum More/Less Than 10.5 Rebounds + Assists

CJ McCollum is going to have to take on a leading offensive role for the Pelicans with Zion out and Brandon Ingram still operating on a minutes limit. So far this season with Zion off the floor, McCollum’s usage has spiked by 3.3% (up to 28.6%). McCollum has also seen a nominal 2.4% assist rate boost, though he’s not doing any extra work on the boards.

For the season, McCollum averaged 4.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. He’s a score-first guard to begin with, and I’d expect him to be extra aggressive in seeking his own shots in this one.

It’s fair to assume the regulars will play massive minutes with this being a do-or-die game for both teams. We have McCollum projected to log 38 minutes, and there’s obviously room for upside on that. Even in a 38-minute projection, however, our Fantasy Pick’em Tool thinks McCollum is more likely than not to finish with less than 10.5 combined rebounds and assists.

Domantas Sabonis More/Less Than 22.5 Rebounds + Assists

While McCollum is rarely a prime source of ancillary stats, Domantas Sabonis has an incredibly well-rounded game. The former All-Star averaged 19.4 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.2 assists this season for the Kings. He’s not quite Nikola Jokic in terms of overall impact, but he’ll stuff the stat sheet on a nightly basis. The last time Sabonis failed to record a double-double was at some point during the Nixon Administration, I believe.

Sabonis led the NBA in rebounds per game this season, and we have him projected to play 40 minutes in this game. Given the tight 1-point spread, I’d say he’s got a pretty good shot at topping that mark. The absence of Zion should help Sabonis avoid foul trouble, and he’ll continue to serve as the Kings’ offensive hub.

22.5 combined rebounds and assists is a lot, but Sabonis routinely reaches that mark with how involved he is on both ends of the floor.
