NBA PrizePicks Predictions Today

Jalen Duren More/Less Than 12.5 Rebounds + Assists

The Pistons and Grizzlies will face off tonight in what could be one of the ugliest games of the season. Both teams are dealing with a rash of “injuries” as they tank their way to the end of their respective schedules. Among those missing from Detroit’s lineup tonight will be Cade Cunningham, Isaiah Stewart, Simone Fontecchio, Ausar Thompson, Quentin Grimes, and Stanley Umude.

One of the few bright spots for the Pistons in an otherwise atrocious season is Jalen Duren. The 2nd-year center is averaging 13.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and nearly a block per game for the league’s worst team. The matchup for Detroit is a good one, as the Grizzlies won’t have Jaren Jackson or Brandon Clarke in there to protect the paint.

This game has a close spread, so we should see Duren play upwards of 35 minutes. Given his impressive per-minute rates and the Grizzlies’ lack of rebounding, he should be primed for a big outing on the boards in this one.

Trey Jemison More/Less Than 18.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

With Jackson and Clarke out, we’re projecting Trey Jemison to draw a start at center for the Grizzlies tonight against the Pistons. Jemison hasn’t played a ton this season, but he should have ample opportunity tonight with Memphis down to 8 playable bodies.

We have Jemison projected to log 32 minutes here, though there is room up or down on that projection, depending on how things go. If he starts, we should feel pretty good about the minutes. The young big man is averaging 11.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, and nearly 2 assists per 36 minutes played this season, and Memphis draws a strong matchup tonight against a Pistons team that has been among the league’s most porous defenses all year.

Deandre Ayton More/Less Than 23.5 Points

Deandre Ayton has never been a big-time scorer at the NBA level, but he’s taken on a bigger scoring role lately with the Blazers dealing with numerous injuries. All of Anfernee Simons, Jerami Grant, Malcolm Brogdon, Shaedon Sharpe, Toumani Camara, and Robert Williams will miss tonight’s game in Washington.

Ayton has seen a nice uptick in usage with those other high-usage players off the floor, and his minutes have been way up of late, too. Ayton averaged nearly 35 minutes per game in March, and he’s playing upwards of 37 minutes per through 2 games in April. Ayton also averaged more than 23 points per game last month, and he’s topped 20 in both games so far this month.

The Wizards are, of course, terrible. They’re allowing the 2nd-most points in the paint per game this season, and Ayton should have his way with a team that may be starting Tristan Vukcevic at center.
