Rise & Grind: Friday, June 19th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
DraftKings Strikeout Series – You asked for more survivor style games and DraftKings delivered. Yesterday, DraftKings announced its Strikeout series. The series will consist of four separate Survivor contests over the next two weeks. Each event is four days long and you simply need to advance past the second day to reach the cash line. The first survivor will run Tuesday at $27, followed by a $5 entry on June 29th, a $300 Entry on June 29th (pays two FBWC tickets) and another $300 entry on July 6th. For more information, check out the promotion page.
Yankees VIP Package Freeroll – Tonight is the big night! FantasyHub is giving away four VIP packages to a New York Yankess game. As of thing morning, less than 50 people have entered the freeroll. All you need to do to become eligible for the freeroll is sign up through the RotoGrinders link in this thread and then make a deposit on FantasyHub. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!
FD WFBC Special Guest – If competing for one Million dollars wasn’t enough to interest you in the FanDuel WFBC, maybe their recent VIP guest host is. Bo Jackson will be attending the WFBC and will even host a special Home Run Derby on Friday August 21st for the contestants. Can you imagine hitting dongs with Bo Jackson? That would be awesome as long as you don’t piss him off. You can read more details about the FanDuel WFBC in this thread. If you want you can even qualify tonight for only $200.
Tiger Woods – You know what the only thing more exciting than meeting Bo Jackson would be? How about playing golf with Tiger Woods? Actually, wait a minute; I might be over-exaggerating the enjoyment of golfing with Tiger. Yesterday, at Chambers Bay, Tiger shot an 80, which is ten over par. The stink appeared to rub off on his group as well. Rickie Fowler shot an 81 and Louis Oosthuizen shot a 77. As if their scores weren’t bad enough, someone hired a plane to fly over Tiger pulling a banner that says CHEATER. Personally, I was shocked to hear that. Yes, Tiger took an illegal drop at the Masters in 2013. I’m not even sure he intentionally meant to cheat. Can’t you people ever let anything go? I figured the penalty stroke was enough of a punishment but I guess some people will never be able to let the past go.
Big Winners – The demise of Tiger is such a sad subject. Let’s take a look at some big winners last night to brighten everyone’s Friday. With the split slate yesterday there were plenty of big winners. If you would like to look through the links yourself, they are listed here. On FanDuel, rrjesq took down the Monster, sting1335 won the Grand Slam, bcalicore punched his ticket to Vegas in the WFBC qualifier, mcbester made good use of his mcjester knock off username and took down the squeeze, drock188 won the early Monster, makayla won the early Rally, bmore1980 won the early Grand Slam, fallenangel took down the Slugger, and devind punched his ticket to the Chicago Baseball Championship. Phew.
Over on DraftKings, TwoGun took down the Perfect Game, bdavis247 won the Payoff Pitch, zlabrams won the moonshot, underjones won the Gold glove, reserve33 won the early Perfect Game, aohare1979 won the early Payoff Pitch, wjwein won the Hot Corner, eck2b won the early Gold Glove, and firechaser is the clubhouse leader in the PGA Millionaire Maker. Hopefully he got a screenshot of “Currently winning $1,000,000” before the event resumed today.
On The Menu
MLB Tonight – There are 15 games on the schedule tonight and all of them lock after 7:05 ET. That means a super-sized slate with super-sized GPPs. The theme of this particular slate is “Who the hell is this guy pitching?” I will prove it to you. Here are a list of four guys pitching tonight: Phillippe Aumont, Matt Wisler, Enrique Iglesias and Taylor Jungmann. I only made up one of those names, but which one is it? You will have to read the MLB Grind Down or Daily Starting Pitcher articles if you want to find out. Either that or you could probably just go look at the lineups page. Actually, speaking of the lineups page, why don’t you click this link and check it out? Riley and his team made some not so subtle changes and it looks pretty sweet.
MLB GPPs – As I mentioned above, tonight’s super-sized slate means some really massive GPPs. DraftKings is running a $250K Mega Perfect Game, $160K Payoff Pitch, $50K Hot Corner, $115K Moonshot, $50K High Heat, and $60K Gold Glove. That’s $685K in GPPs not even counting large double ups and qualifiers. Over on FanDuel, we have a $200K Grand Slam, $125K Monster, $50K Squeeze, $15K Sac Fly, $115K Rally, and $15K Line Drive. That’s $520K in guarantees and it doesn’t even count CBC and WFBC qualifiers, or any of the large double ups. In short, the Big Two have over $1M each guaranteed in their lobbies. The smaller sites have plenty of guaranteed action as well. FantasyAces is running a $109 FABC qualifier and FantasyFeud has overlayed every single Friday this MLB season.
#NarrativeStreet – If you want a piece of the millions of dollars being handed out tonight, you can always lean on the experts here at RG. The problem with that though is so does everyone else. You may need a couple of sneaky plays to set yourself apart from the crowd. Here are some example of plays like that based on narratives. Jacob deGrom was already a good play, but he’s even better tonight in a #BirthdayGame. Today would have also been Oscar Taveras’ birthday but he died tragically during the offseason. You can still stack the Cardinals tonight to honor him. On the #RevengeGame front, Asdrubal Cabrera squares off against the Indians and Geovany Soto squares off against the Rangers. As far as #MilestoneWatch goes, yesterday I promised you three A-Rod hits to get to 3,000 and he only got two. He will get the other one tonight. You might as well roster “Mr. 3,000” just for posterity. While you are at it, toss Prince Fielder into your lineup as he hits his 300th dong tonight. If you prefer numbers over narratives, you will have Ryan Braun on every signle team tonight. In 14 at-bats, Braun is batting .714 off Jorge De La Rosa, which includes three dongs. Fire him up with confidence because BvP would never lie to you. Last but not least, don’t forget to stack the “Padres” this Sunday on Father’s Day. That is the no-brainer of all #NarrativeStreet plays.
Bottom Line – Lots of exciting things are happening in DFS. As the industry grows, sites need to hear your opinion on key issues. If you want your voice heard, please participate in the first ever industry-wide DFS survey. The survey is being run by Elias and is the most comprehensive data collection effort to date. Take a few minutes and fill it out. With that, we are out of here for the weekend. Good luck out there Grinders! I hope I get a chance to write about you in the Monday Big winners section.
