Rise & Grind: Wednesday, May 6th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
DFS Tournament Report – If you didn’t get a chance to read it, thehazyone did an excellent recap of Monday’s tournaments in his Tournament Report. This will be a new feature on the site going forward. In case you are wondering, last night dubbledess took down the $1M Monster, beastmode11 won the FanDuel WFBC qualifier and one of the FD PFBC seats while CSURam88 claimed the other PFBC seat. Over on DraftKings, Lsphila won the DraftKings FBWC seat and there was a three way tie for first in the Perfect Game. Make sure you give thehazyone’s Tournament Report from last night a read when you get a chance. The rest of last night’s links are in this forum thread.
A Few Good Minutes With bw5126 – After noticing three separate players tied for first in the Perfect Game, I realized they all had the same lineup. The lineup was simply a Braves 1-6 stack, Greinke and Miller at Pitcher and then Ellsbury and Altuve. I noticed that this was actually the 25th lineup for one of the entrants. I decided to catch up with bw5126 to ask some tough questions about multi-entry and stacking. Here’s how it went.
Me: I noticed you won the Perfect game with your 25th lineup which was what some would call “a mindless stack.” Is it true that stacking and bankroll make GPPs unfair?
bw5126: You want answers?
Me: I think I’m entitled.
bw5126: You want answers?
Me: I want the truth.
bw5126: You can’t handle the truth!!
short pause
bw5126: Son, we live in a world that has massive GPPs, and those GPPs have to be funded by men with bankrolls. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, and your $10 per night? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep when men like Kelly Johnson hit a dong batting 6th, and you curse the stacks. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Kelly’s home run, while lucky, was a calculated part of a stack. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, increases your chances at minimum cashing. You don’t want the truth, because deep down even though you don’t talk about it on GrindersLive , you want me in that GPP, you need me in that GPP. We use words like stack, bankroll, and exposure. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent chasing something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and grinds the very GPPs that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide them. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you take out a loan, and multi-enter on your own. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
Me: Did you win because you had 25+ entries?
bw5126: I did the job I…
Me: Did you win because of multi-entry?
bw5126: You’re damn right I did!
Isiah Thomas Headed to the WNBA – No, no, no, not Isaiah Thomas (the Celtics point guard), he’s staying in the NBA, most likely on Brad Stevens’ bench. We’re talking about Isiah Thomas, who once presided over the New York Knicks. Even though Thomas wasn’t particularly successful as Knicks President or Coach, Knicks and New York Liberty owner James Dolan feels Thomas deserves another shot. This time with the Knicks’ sister organization. If you are a Knicks fan, this move probably confuses you. It’s even more confusing when you recall that the Knicks lost an $11M sexual harassment lawsuit in which Thomas was found liable of harassing a female executive. Usually in situations like this, I would recommend the fans band together and let Dolan know how they feel. I’m not sure it will work though. You may remember this fan who expressed his displeasure with Dolan and the Knicks. Dolan responded with a few choice words and then let the fan know he should root for the Nets instead. If you are a NY Liberty fan, or even a female, start looking for a new team. Dolan and the NY Liberty don’t want you or care about you.
MLB Last Night – Hopefully, Cinco de Mayo treated you well. If you were on the Braves or Dodgers stack, things probably went pretty decent. If you were on the Astros stack, things didn’t go as well. The Astros putrid effort might be explained by the fact that the Rangers ruined their piñata prior to the game (see gif to the right). The Rangers crushed that piñata and then crushed the Astros 7-1. This is why #Narratives are important. Have you ever had someone ruin your party when it was just getting started? If you were on the Coors field stack, that party was also ruined. Mother nature decided that for the second night in a row, DFS players would have to look somewhere besides the obvious plays. The good news is we get a Coors doubleheader today as a replacement. The bad news is that only the first game counts for DFS purposes on most sites.
The Dong Report – As I pointed out yesterday, the #narratives said players with Mexican sounding names were a lock on Cinco de Mayo. If you listened, you probably had a share of Adrian Gonzalez, Carlos Peguero, and Carlos Perez. Narratives never lie guys. In total there were 25 dongs yesterday. The aforementioned Gonzalez had the longest dong at 453 feet. The shortest belonged to Alex Avila at 340 feet. Mookie Betts hit the only double dong while Chad Billingsley and Jeff Locke tied for most dongs allowed with two each.
On The Menu
The Players Championship – At some point today, you need to stop your MLB research and set aside some time for PGA. The Players Championship is this weekend, and DraftKings has a $300K Pressure Put as well as a massive Millionaire Maker satellite. The field is deep this week with nearly every golfer ranked in the top 50 playing. Gibbathy and STLCardinals recorded a podcast last night with analysis of the entire event. The Daily Fantasy Foursome is also posted on the homepage and incentive members have access to Notorious’ projections as well as Notorious and Gibbathy’s expert picks. Lineups lock tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM ET. While setting your lineups, be sure to check into the #narratives. As you may be aware, Tiger Woods broke up with his girlfriend recently, so I was about to endorse the “Tiger is on the prowl” narrative. Then I read this article that Tiger has not slept since the breakup. Fade Tiger while he is on the rebound.
MLB Today – If you are so inclined, MLB offers two playable slates today. The first starts at 1:05 PM ET and includes the early Coors Field game. If you need your Coors Fix, this is the slate for you. If you want to avoid Coors, the 12-game slate locking at 7:05 is your best choice. The analysis here at RotoGrinders will be focused on the late slate, but I’m sure Notorious will have the early Grind Down posted to let you know it is a good idea to take all the players at Coors. Throughout the day, you can still expect the usual hard hitting analysis you have come to expect. That will include the Pitcher and Hitter Breakdown, Six-Pack, and so much more. If you are looking for a #Narrative to get behind, things are looking a bit bleak today. Nothing jumps out at me, so I’m using my Kris Bryant dong call. From what I understand, everyone in the DFS industry gets to claim Bryant will dong once, and eventually one of them will be right. Hop on board with the Rise and Grind as we use our Kris Bryant dong call today. If it doesn’t work, ride with someone else tomorrow. Sooner or later it is going to happen.
Bottom Line – We got a bit wordy today in the Rise and Grind, but this was all information you needed. The bottom line is short and sweet today. You already knew this, but it is important to check weather in MLB. Two of the three early games have weather concerns. Take a look at the forecast and use it your advantage. There are likely some fish out there who will forget to check. Hopefully you find some of them in the early slate or all-day slate. If you don’t see any, take a second look at your own lineup. You may be the fish. Good luck, and as always, I will see you tomorrow.
