Sunday Night Football Betting Picks: Bears at Rams

Article Image

Sunday Night Football nearly closes out a busy Week 11 around the NFL. The Chicago Bears travels to Los Angeles Rams with both teams underperforming on preseason expectations. Online sports betting sites peg the Rams as large home favorites despite suffering a tough loss to the Steelers in Week 10. The Bears just barely edged the Lions despite Matt Stafford not suiting up in the contest. Could either team make a run back into the playoff hunt with a victory on Sunday Night?

Just when the Rams seemed poised to make a run after consecutive blowouts against the Bengals and the Falcons, Los Angeles traveled to Pittsburgh and scored 12 points. Cooper Kupp did not catch a pass and Jared Goff struggled under pressure. Last season, the Rams made coach Sean McVay look like a genius until the Super Bowl — as the offense averaged a third-best 6.2 yards per plays. This season, despite a relatively healthy team (Gurley’s knee a concern) the Rams sit near the bottom half of the league with sub-six yards per play on offense. Jared Goff has been average at best with a 60.22% completion rate and a proclivity to struggle when under pressure. Last week, Goff was sacked four times, fumbled thrice, and threw two picks.

The Bears’ defense is not as imposing as the defense of 2018 but still should be able to put pressure on Jared Goff and the Rams’ offensive line. The Bears, top five in sacks per game in 2018, just make the top ten in sacks per game in 2019 with 2.8 per game. The defense is not as stout but the offense is the pits.

Booed out of their own building a few times this season, Mitch Trubisky has struggled all season to get anything going. The Bears sit in the bottom five in points scored per game and yards per play on offense. The Bears average two touchdowns per game on offense this season and the defense has not supplemented enough to keep the Bears afloat. The Trubisky pick continues to be fodder for conversation as Patrick Mahomes continues to be spotlighted in Kansas City.

All in all, neither team is living up to expectations set before the season began. Previously at +1200 and +1400 to win the Super Bowl per Pro-Football-Reference, the Bears and Rams are not even in the top ten in current Super Bowl odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Rams are now +4000 and the Bears… +12500.

The Sunday Night Football Pick

The betting line on this game opened at -7.5 and has moved all the way to -6 since opening. Moving across the key number all the way to six points leaves a bit of wiggle room to get a better number for the Rams. While the Rams are struggling to make anything happen but will play at home against a disappointing Bears team. The offense might not fire on all cylinders but the defense should be able to keep a hapless Mitch Trubisky at bay. I want to buy now before the line shifts back towards Los Angeles by Sunday evening. At six points, I am happy to buy a bounce-back performance from the Rams. Give me the Rams at -6 before this line moves the other way.

The Pick: Rams -6
