PrizePicks Super Bowl Predictions: Tight Ends

Travis Kelce More/Less Than 71.5 Receiving Yards

As it turns out, the rumors of the demise of Travis Kelce appear to have been a bit premature. On the heels of his worst statistical regular season since 2015, Kelce has certainly looked like his old self in the playoffs. Across Kansas City’s first 3 postseason games, the future Hall-of-Famer has reeled in 23 of his 27 targets for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns.

This matchup is a tough one for the KC passing attack, of course. San Francisco is 4th in the league in total DVOA this year, and they’ve been much more stingy against the pass (4th) than against the run (15th).

Even with the emergence of Rashee Rice, Kelce is still the target Patrick Mahomes trusts most, of course. The Niners will surely focus their efforts on doubling Kelce as often as possible, but we’ve seen Mahomes force-feed his favorite target enough over the years to know the defense can only do so much. Our Pick’em Tool gives Kelce about a 54% chance of topping 71.5 receiving yards in the Super Bowl.

George Kittle More/Less Than 11.5 Fantasy Points

George Kittle may not have as many accolades as his counterpart in this game, but he’s still developed into one of the more reliable tight ends in the game in recent years. The 30-year-old topped 1,000 receiving yards for the 3rd time in his career this season, though his production is fairly boom or bust on a week-by-week basis.

Kittle put together a nice outing in the Divisional Round, hauling in 4 of his 7 targets for 81 yards with a score. Deebo Samuel did leave that game early with an injury, however, which funneled targets to some of the Niners’ other pass catchers. With Samuel in the lineup in the NFC Championship Game, Kittle finished with just a pair of receptions for 27 yards on only 3 looks.

Scoring 11.5 fantasy points for Kittle really isn’t a lot, especially given PrizePicks’ PPR format. However, Deebo’s presence does make a difference. Kittle averaged north of 18 PPR fantasy points in the 3 games Samuel missed this season. In 14 games with Deebo in the lineup, Kittle averaged 11.8 PPR fantasy points per game. It’ll be a sweat, but taking less than 11.5 fantasy points for Kittle in the Super Bowl is a viable path.

Noah Gray More/Less Than 3 Fantasy Points

Noah Gray has been playing in Kelce’s shadow for years, but he has still been a serviceable backup in the Chiefs offense. Plus, you never know what can happen in a 1-game sample. We’ve seen less likely heroes emerge and become legends in the Super Bowl over the years. Someone like Gray is certainly capable of coming up big on the grandest stage of them all.

PrizePicks doesn’t have huge expectations for KC’s No. 2 tight end, as evidenced by his more/less than 3 fantasy points square. We do know that Mahomes will typically spread the wealth when he’s not targeting Kelce, though, and Gray does have at least 3 targets in each of the last 2 games. All it takes is one play for Gray to top 3 fantasy points on Sunday.
